Well I’m excited. I hope you are, too. A breath of fresh air arrives today, Monday July 7, 2025. Electrified Uranus moves into Gemini leaving behind, temporarily, the sign of Taurus that tends to restrict its enthusiasm.
Taurus is an Earth sign, full of weight. It slows us down and grounds us before we reach Gemini, an Air sign, the mental realm, limitless, light, providing enormous space for exploration. In Gemini Uranus has been set free for flights of fancy, to work its awakening magic with no limitations. What does it mean for us? Metaphorically, Uranus is about to ignite the cathodes of our minds and spark another awakening.
Let’s get a feel for Uranus. First of all, Uranus is the first planet beyond our visual realm. It introduces us to the unseen, the unknown, the mysteries beyond the veil of our senses. It triggers new thoughts, revolutionary ideas, genius insights. It’s the planet of individuation supporting the expansion of our conscious awareness, strengthening our connection with our authentic selves. The next seven years offer the opportunity of conscious evolution.
Uranus also frees us from our conditioning – the stories we were told about how the world works and what our place is within the system. It shatters Saturn structure, by liberating us from conditioned beliefs, through flashes of insight. Uranus takes us to a more enlightened state of consciousness. It awakens new thoughts, ideas, inventions, discoveries which transform us individually as well as collectively. With the help of Uranus, we can build a new world, based on a more enlightened understanding of spiritual truths.
Uranus is the planet of freedom – freedom to be our true selves, freedom to explore the unknown, freedom from social bias and hierarchy, as well as political domination. If we think back to the awakening that ushered in the Age of Enlightenment, it all began with revolutions around the world, a throwing off of the rule of kings.
For millennia we the people were kept in poverty and service to those of wealth who held their kingdoms perpetually through their descendants. In the Middle Ages, we were called serfs. We tilled the fields and our produce went to the King. The fruits of all our labor were dedicated to the welfare of the Crown and we accepted it because we were told that God willed it. It was the Divine Right of Kings.
Finally we woke up because of an idea – freedom – the first spark of a revolutionary shift, thoughts of independence, the right to have a personal life, the right to believe what we wanted, to earn our own living and reap the harvest of our labor. Think of what an extraordinary awakening that was!
Well, here we are again, with Uranus starting to awaken new ideas, replace outworn beliefs, shatter the conditioning of family, society, religions and our patriarchal paradigm.
Uranus and Saturn
Until Uranus was discovered on March 13, 1781, Saturn formed the boundary of our solar system. It also set limits on the spiritual and political potential of human consciousness and supported a paradigm of male domination.
Uranus shattered those boundaries, opening doors to a wider world of possibility. At its signing, Uranus was in Aquarius, the only zodiacal sign devoted to humanity. With Saturn as its ruler, the potential of humanity was confined to servitude. However, the revolutionary energy of Uranus woke up the world and fostered rebellion. By 1825, Uranus was recognized as the co-ruler of Aquarius. The dramatic difference between these two planets established a series of paradoxes that we are still struggling to resolve.
For instance, Aquarius supports the uniqueness of the individual as part of the power and diversity of the collective. It teaches us how to hold paradox and see polarities on a spectrum. While Saturn supports duality, Uranus is wholistic. Opposites do not negate one another, they are two poles of a dynamic interchange. Uranus helps us expand our consciousness to see that both sides are true. The trick is to find the balance point where polarities can work together, because it is only when they are together, that they can work as intended. Hopefully part of our collective awakening over the next seven years will include the realization of our Oneness as well as the uniqueness of our Individuality. The health of the whole depends upon the health of its parts.
We’re already living in highly charged times. One of the dangers of Uranus is impulsiveness. A flash of insight will illuminate the inner walls of our brain, and without pausing for reflection, nor consultation with the heart, we charge off to take action. The impetus is there, but we need to avoid rash and hasty behavior.
When we get a flash of insight, we reap the most benefits by letting it gestate. Insights plant seeds. They need time in darkness to germinate and grow. Some will lie fallow. Others can change your life.
Uranus in the USA Chart
In the USA chart, our natal Uranus lies at 9 degrees of Gemini. In two years our nation will have its Uranus Return. It takes 84 years for Uranus to make a complete cycle through the Zodiac. A lot can change in 84 years, but some themes recur. Think back to our last Uranus return in 1944. We were defeating fascism and genocide in Europe. Look where we are today – practically the same place. Only the cast of characters has changed. In the place of Hitler, we have Trump. Instead of Jews, we abuse immigrants. We deport them to countries that will cage them, beat them, torture them and let them die in unsanitary conditions. Once we fought the abusers. Now we have become them.
The USA Uranus is in our 6th House, the house of work, health, daily habits and most of all service. Right next door to Uranus, about ½ degree away, is the dwarf planet Gonggong. The mythology of Gonggong reveals that one of this dwarf’s gifts is the ability to see one’s impact on others and the world.
Gonggong was a Chinese god who had trouble controlling his emotions. The emotional energy of this planet is intense, but it awakens us to the consequences of our actions. In the myth, Gonggong threw a hissy-fit and rammed his head into a mountain. The subsequent avalanche destroyed a dam flooding the town below and destroying an entire population. Talk about consequence!
The whole point is that we must become aware of how we affect others. Seems pretty basic, but obviously is not in fashion at the moment. We are an unconscious society, living on ill-considered instincts, like adolescents. We want what we want when we want it, to hell with everyone else. If we are to survive as a species, we need to grow up and take full responsibility for our presence. Uranus is going to help us do just that. Who knows, maybe we can change ourselves enough to change the world. I pray so.
Uranus in our 6th House is reminding us that the way we live through our day, the habits we have formed, the dedication with which we perform our work, the care we give to the details of our lives and our thoughtfulness for the welfare of others, matter. Personal responsibility is the foundation of a thriving democracy.
As Uranus makes its way toward our return, the focus will be on how we conduct our personal lives on a daily basis. Will we clean up the messes in our lives? Pay attention to our health? Eliminate habits that compromise our well-being? Will we take this opportunity for self-reflection and growth? Remember that the 6th House is resonant with the sign of Virgo.
With the influence of Uranus, our lives will change, some for the worse, others for the better. How are we going to handle this change? Can we keep our heads connected to our hearts and think about the needs of the many, what’s good for our country and our world?
Uranus in Gemini
Gemini is the first Air sign addressing the mental realm. It is ruled by Mercury, the messenger. Mercury is curious, an avid information-gatherer, a fluent teacher and communicator, playing with ideas, forming concepts and building beliefs. Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury, the bringer of insights and flashes of brilliance. It will shatter our Saturnian beliefs in control and limitation. For the next seven years we will receive a wake-up call that will open our minds and our eyes to a new view of our world and humanity.
These are exciting times, but they carry some warnings. Uranus thrives in mental realms where things can happen instantly. It can agitate our impatience. We need to carry the “groundedness” of Taurus into our Gemini experience.
And of course there will be resistance from the conservative faction, carrying the threat of conflict and the exercise of even more control. Uranian energy will push us to the brink where we are “mad as hell’ and won’t take it any longer. We need the electric energy of Uranus to bomb us out of complacency, but when that happens, let us pray it doesn’t lead to another civil war. Our president has already begun building his private army.
The good news is that every Uranus transit through Gemini is accompanied by new technology, breakthroughs in science, a shift in theology, and social reform that addresses the needs of the people. Uranus will trump Saturn in the end.
Other Aspects
While Uranus blows into Gemini territory, it has company. Slightly ahead are the dwarf planet Sedna and the personal planet Venus, illustrating much of what I have already written.
Sedna became the outmost planet in our Solar System upon its discovery in November of 2003. Because of her name and the mythology behind the woman turned goddess, Sedna herself, astrologers began to speculate on her meaning. Alan Clay wrote a book about Sedna and teaches a course at Dwarf Planet University. From there, his students and other astrologers began to weave together a picture of Sedna’s influence.
At the moment Sedna has the honor to be our spiritual destiny. She teaches us to let go of what we think we know, to explore the unknown. Sedna was an independent Inuit girl who refused to go down the conditioned path of marriage and motherhood. She was kidnapped by a shaman if the form of a raven. For seven years, he kept her in isolation teaching her the mysteries of metaphysics. She then attempted to flee with the aid of her father and his boat. When Raven discovered her betrayal, he soared down to stir up the waters. Sedna’s father was frightened and threw his daughter out of the boat thinking to save himself. He even chopped off her fingers when she attempted to cling to the rim of the boat. The severed fingers floated down and transformed into the denizens of the sea and Sedna, as she sank, was transformed into a goddess of the sea.
Intriguing myth. If we think of Sedna’s father as a symbol of the patriarchy, it makes more sense. On the one hand Sedna demonstrates an independence, a refusal to lead a conditioned life. Then she studies metaphysics and spirituality in seclusion with a shaman. She escapes from that as well, to claim her autonomy. The chopping off of the fingers reveals the futility of attempting to cling to the past and the present form of life. It also alludes to the survival of patriarchal dominance, throwing women out of the ship of state, sacrificing and mutilating them to maintain control. The myth also tells us that letting go is the key to transcendence.
Sedna has come to represent not only the goal of enlightenment, but the path itself. When we stray off our spiritual path, Sedna is there to correct us. The exact conjunction won’t happen until May of 2026, but Uranus and Sedna are collaborating now, exchanging energy and ideas, fertilizing one another with opportunities for real change.
Plus there’s the presence of Venus – in fact she’s leading the way at 3 degrees of Gemini. Venus brings the Divine Feminine into an alliance. We have become accustomed to the harshness of the masculine, but it’s hard on our health. What has happened to compassion, caring, nurturing, connectedness, beauty, gentleness, inclusion? These are qualities we can bring into our world individually. We can live by these values and they will nurture us because they are the qualities of consciousness that make up feminine spirituality. They will also have an impact on those around us. This energy is irresistible – electric Uranus and the Divine Feminine in both Sedna and Venus.
But that’s not all. Directly across from Uranus, Sedna and Venus is the Moon, illuminating our natal Haumea. A huge dose of feminine energy. Haumea is a creation goddess who rejuvenates herself with every creation. She has a passion for diversity, she takes joy in creativity, she has the power of rebirth and eternal youth. No matter what your age, eternal youth lies in the Soul. The Moon is receiving Haumea’s energy in the 12th House and will carry it across the threshold of our Ascendant into the 1st House to work her transformative magic.
Uranus is going to activate our Soul connection. The whole chart suggests that transformation is inevitable and that the heavens are supporting a total transformation of humanity and our symbiotic world through the return of the Divine Feminine.
Uranus is the last of the transpersonal planets to make a sign shift. Pluto took up residence in Aquarius last December. Neptune entered Aries along with Saturn in May and will end its transition in January of 2026. And now Uranus is starting its transition into Gemini. We are moving from Earth and Water elements into Air and Fire. The pace is going to pick up. Air sustains fire. A lot of subterranean, as well as subconscious material is about to erupt.
Tempers will flare. Our dismay, disgust and rage are closing in on a brink. One spark could ignite a conflagration. So while these are exciting times, they are also volatile. Pray that we can take back our country peacefully.
The Transpersonal Triangle
Uranus will be trine Pluto, working in harmony with the Lord of the Underworld. It will be sextile Saturn and Neptune, adding karma and universal love to the mix. We may feel like agates in a tumbler as collisions shave off our rough edges.
The Cosmos has ripened us for this moment in our evolution. We are equipped to take this quantum leap. We’ve just had our solar return as well as our Jupiter return. We’re well charged with Spirit and Faith. We may have a bumpy ride ahead, but we’ll be fine if we keep our eyes on the destination. I’ve said so many times before, don’t look at the obstacles. Look at where you want to land.
Remember Sedna and be willing to let go in order to transform. Be on the lookout for whispers from Uranus and let them germinate. Allow yourself to feel, no matter how painful it may be. Have a good cry to both release pressure and cleanse the mind. We are the vessels of the Divine Feminine, radiating compassion and caring. Empathy is not a disease, it is the healing agent that can knit our union back together.
