“When one cycle ends and before the next one begins, there’s a window of time when neither exists. It’s in that place where we have the greatest opportunity, where our choices have the greatest potency to change the pattern, the oscillation, the cycle of the past, before it begins the next cycle.” Gregg Braden in “Choice Point”
Last week I spent three days in a Bioenergetics Conference and received a new vision of healing that is the foundation for the Medicine of our future. At some point I will share what I learned, but for now I want to focus on some themes that had meaning for me.
The conference was sponsored by NES Health. Aside from lectures and interviews, the founder Harry Massey made two beautiful films that sparked my sense of connection to humanity around the world and my vision for our future. A Sagittarius Full Moon is the perfect time to focus on vision.
In his film “Choice Point,” Harry asks, “Which do we desire – the love of power or the power of love?” Doesn’t that really sum it all up? Ever since the first king seized a throne, millennia ago, we have focused on the love of power. Then along came an Avatar who tried to steer us toward the power of love – how it can heal, unite, open our hearts to a new perspective. That was a Choice Point and we blew it! We stuck with the love of power which includes domination and control, and this is where we are mired now watching the corruption of power that results and the devastation it causes.
So at this Full Moon we can ask ourselves, “What would the world look like if we turned to the power of Love?” We are balanced on another Choice Point. There is no question that we will evolve. The question is how long are we going to resist and prolong the agony?
The other theme that came up was that of finding our place in the world. We are all nicely nestled in our personal lives but evolution is asking us to identify with a larger perspective. We are citizens of a world. We belong to a family called Humanity. Where do we fit in? What is our unique purpose? What talents were we blessed with that can be of service to our collective family? Finding purpose in life sustains passion and life force. It is the natural anti-aging remedy.
Full Moon at 23+ degrees of Sagittarius
When the Moon comes closest to Earth in its orbit and happens also to oppose the Sun, we get what’s called a Super Moon. That means it will appear larger on the horizon and inspire all those spectacular photos of Moon-rise or set. On the West Coast it will happen just before sunrise, so try to get outside by 4:30 a.m., look to the West and watch this gorgeous orb sink out of sight. Exact time of fulness is 4:51 a.m. Pacific. Rarely do we get to witness simultaneous sunrise and moonset.
The Sabian Symbol for 24 Sagittarius is “A Bluebird alights on a little cottage.” To me this bluebird of good fortune is saying that happiness can be found in the simple pleasures in life. In our rushed world, we don’t find time for quiet moments of fullness. Yet in retrospect, those are the moments that stick with us throughout our lives and sustain us.
In the USA chart the Moon is in our First House of identity. Light is being cast on how we express ourselves as a collective. Sad to say there is much to improve in our global image. Remember that the Moon is reflected light. It is the light of the Sun we are seeing reflected on the surface of the Moon at a frequency we can tolerate. We cannot stare into the face of the Sun and thus the Moon delivers its message with a gentler light.
The Sun is in our collective 7th House conjunct our natal Mars. We are getting a clear picture of the toxic masculine infected with the love of power. Since this Full Moon lies on the 1st/7th House axis, it is asking us not only to look at ourselves, but at how we relate to others. And while we are at it, Neptune, which forms a T-square to the lunar axis, is suggesting we relax our grip on individualism and surrender to our interdependence. Rugged individualism has been the hallmark of the American frontier, but this philosophy has engendered a society of lonely people seeking to belong. The truth is we all belong to the human family and success isn’t about how much we shine in the world, but how much we give to it.
The themes of this Full Moon are those of fiery Sagittarius, and its ruler Jupiter – truth, justice, expanded perception, elevated vision and inspired faith. Jupiter is slowing down now in the early degrees of Aries. We are getting a sneak preview of 2023 when Jupiter will sweep through this sign of initiation and new beginnings. Before then, however, this giant will turn retrograde at the end of July and return for a final review of Pisces. Jupiter turns direct again at the end of October, just before our mid-term elections. We are at a critical choice point, and between now and then we will get a big dose of facts and an opportunity to see a bigger picture.
Mercury and Saturn
Mercury turned direct on June 3rd at 26 degrees of Taurus. The following day, Saturn turned retrograde at 25 Aquarius. These two planets are in a tight square. There is tension here which will unfold throughout the month. We are going to receive new information and it will probably threaten some cherished beliefs. Our challenge is to keep our minds open and allow Saturn to work with Mercury to restructure perception. We all hold limiting beliefs about ourselves and our personal power. This is a chance to shatter those constricting concepts not only about ourselves, but our country as well, and the institutions that have a strangle-hold on our society.
Mars and Chiron
Transiting Mars is conjunct our natal Chiron within minutes of arc. We may see symptoms of unhealed wounds, patriarchal wounds, inflicted in anger or aggression, or a love of power. Sagittarius asks us to face the truth. In fact it demands truth and continually seeks it. The question is how do we receive it? Close our eyes and ears? Deny it? Judge it? Reinforce our righteousness?
We could be grateful, instead, and look upon our pain and suffering as symptomatic of what needs to change. Mars is great for that. Mars takes action. Maybe he gets outraged and becomes a warrior for justice. Our very purpose can emerge from our suffering.
This conjunction takes place in our 4th House – the collective psyche that was born along with this bold experiment in democracy. The sacred masculine in our society has been wounded and twisted by false information and ideals. The healthy masculine cares and protects. It goes to battle for worthy causes. Our Mars needs healing so he can take action to address our collective pain.
Feminine Warriors
There is a strong feminine emphasis at this Full Moon. Ceres, our Earth Mother, is conjunct our natal Sun in Cancer bringing care, nurturing and the safety of Mother-Love, which can also be fiercely protective.
At the same time, Black Moon Lilith is conjunct our natal Venus, igniting our inner power and autonomy. “Where is your outrage?” she demands. “Are you going to let your children be murdered? Your rights taken away? Get up and fight! Make a stand.” Time to engage the power of love. Love is not weak. Ask any mother – it can be ferocious.
Meanwhile Eris continues to work with Pluto through their five-year oscillating square, creating pressure to force change. There are two gems in her myth. She demonstrates the damage that happens when segments of our population don’t have a seat at the table. Furthermore she triggers reactions that reveal ego defenses. Eris demands justice, equality and authenticity.
Eris is also sextile Saturn in Aquarius. While Saturn can represent limitations, boundaries, resistance to change, and the dynamics of patriarchal institutions, in its Aquarian expression it can help us solidify our vision of a better future. Transiting our 3rd House it is exposing fake news, long-lived faulty beliefs and outright lies. Saturn demands integrity and responsibility and shows us the tragic outcome of our poor choices. Eris and Saturn work together to uncover entitlement and social injustice.
Opposite Eris is Haumea exercising the power of love through endless regeneration and rebirth. She joyously creates behind the scenes of death and destruction, promising new life, a fresh start.
Ixion, Pholus, Quaoar
In our natal chart, the dwarf planet Ixion lies at 1 degree of Capricorn. At the Full Moon, Black Moon Lilith is at 1 degree of Cancer – a perfect opposition. The first degrees of the Cardinal Signs are known as the World Axis, so planets on these degrees affect the whole world. This is important when we consider the significance of Ixion and Black Moon Lilith.
We know that Lilith is the fierce Feminine demanding equality and autonomy, but she has been demonized in our patriarchal mythology. Ixion is the “bad boy” of our galaxy. He is a rule breaker. For the most part, in an unenlightened society, he wreaks havoc. Ixion is in the heart of our First House. We have been rule-breakers from the start. We rebelled against our British rulers. We threw their tea in the harbor rather than pay their tariffs. We finally went to war and threw off their authority.
Think of outlaws depicted in old Westerns, or mafia, or the Proud Boys besieging our nation’s Capitol. Think of social rule breakers like Galileo, Thoreau, Ghandi, Betty Friedan or George Carlin who pointed out the absurdities in our society until his death in 2008. See the difference here? There are those who defy the law as mindless acts of rebellion or for personal gain, and there are those who pioneer new behavior or introduce radical thought or challenge the validity of outworn belief systems and blatant absurdities.
Most of you fall into the latter category. We see what rules no longer serve us, what belief systems are flawed, what laws are unjust and what social conventions are destructive. We are reformers not destroyers. Ixion operates differently at diverse frequencies.
We are in the midst of our first Ixion return. It began in February of 2021, happens again on August 2nd of this year, and makes its fifth and final conjunction on October 24th. Over the past two years we have had a good look at bad behavior, outlaw defiance, and devastating crime.
When a planet returns to its natal position, it brings the sum total of the information it gained during its full passage through the Zodiac. It offers an opportunity to raise the frequency of its expression and manifest a more evolved consciousness. As Gregg Braden said in the opening quote, there is a pause between cycles and this is a point of choice. This is an opportunity to raise our awareness and consequently the expression of our natal Ixion.
We have a stellium of subtle energies in our collective identity that need to be recognized now. Ixion lies exactly 7 degrees away from Eris in Capricorn suggesting how injustice and inequality are prime triggers for criminal behavior. These two forces can create chaos, rancor and malice. Pholus is within 2 degrees of our natal Eris. Pholus is one of the Centaurs and carries a heightened perception and wisdom. He supports our awakening during a transformative process, helping us pierce the veils of illusion and see more clearly. Furthermore, Pholus helps us discover and commit to our purpose in life. Just what we need right now.
The dwarf planet Quaoar is closely conjunct Pholus contributing spiritual energy for this evolutionary process. These three bodies will travel together for the rest of this decade, helping us rebuild our national identity. And this is where we will find our true purpose in this world.
Black Moon Lilith and Selena
There are two “fictitious” Moons in our system. Black Moon Lilith is a point in space. Some say that she is the apogee, or furthest point of our Moon from Earth. Others say she is the second focal point of our Moon’s elliptical orbit around Earth. In either case she is invisible, but that doesn’t make her less powerful. The same is true of the White Moon or Selena. This point which is determined by complex calculations involving relationships between Sun, Moon and Earth, is considered in Astrology as the one who lights our way, or reveals our sacred path. This point falls in our natal chart in the First House on the Galactic Center, the heart of our Milky Way Galaxy and source of Divine Wisdom. I haven’t brought this up before but the timing is appropriate now. We have a guiding light and it lies buried beneath the surface of our bad-boy rebelliousness. It is beaming messages from the Mind of God, so to speak. All we have to do is be quiet long enough to listen.
Coming Up
Here are the significant aspects and dates for the month of June, carrying us up to the New Moon in Cancer on the 28th.
June 3 Mercury stations Direct at 26 Taurus
June 4. Saturn stations retrograde at 25 Aquarius
June 10 Mercury makes its third trine to Pluto
June 11 Venus in Taurus conjunct Uranus
June 16 Venus conjunct the North Node
June 18 Venus square retrograde Saturn
Venus sextile Neptune
June 20 Mercury in Gemini sextile Jupiter in Aries
June 21 Sun into Cancer – Summer Solstice
Venus trine retrograde Pluto
June 22 Venus moves into Gemini
June 28 New Moon in Cancer
Sun square Jupiter in Aries
Venus sextile Jupiter
You can see how busy Venus is this month. As we integrate the Gemini lunar cycle, building a new vision out of the information we have garnered, Venus is forming relationships and reminding us of the power of love.
By the way, the meteor shower that astronomers predicted was not the spectacle we hoped for because most of the meteors didn’t reach our atmosphere and become fireballs. I did see dark streaks after twilight, and a dozen or so “shooting stars,” but no fireworks. Guess we have to wait for the 4th of July.
