Early Wednesday morning the heavens are putting on a spectacular show, well worth getting up to see. At 4:13 a.m. Pacific time, the Moon will come full, but instead of the usual milky white glow, she will appear in dark red. This is a very special Moon for several reasons: (1) the Moon is closest to Earth, making it a Super Moon; (2) it will be a total lunar eclipse as the Sun, Earth and Moon line up perfectly to occlude the Moon’s reflective light; (3) the Moon is in the USA’s 12th house conjunct the South Node, close to the Ascendant, in the visionary sign of Sagittarius; and (4) Jupiter forms a T Square to the Full Moon axis.
There’s a lot going on in our Solar System right now, but let’s start with messages from the 12th House. This area of the chart is associated with the sign Pisces and refers to our spiritual connection with each other, with all that is unseen including our personal and collective unconscious. The inner work we do here contributes to the growth and evolution of the collective. It is through 12th house activities like meditation that we gain access to realities beyond the physical. The 12th House is where we integrate what is valuable from our experience and release what no longer serves us. The 12th House ends at the Ascendant where new cycles begin. The more we surrender in the 12th house, the greater the potential for growth and transformation in the new cycle. The 12th House, therefore, is about letting go of the past.
This message is emphasized by the Full Moon’s conjunction with the South Node. The Nodes form an axis of power points where the Moon intersects the ecliptic. These points represent the intersection of Soul and Spirit. New experience informs our consciousness at the North Node, “travels” through our psyche and is released at the South Node. Our willingness to release experience into the energetic realm determines the extent of freedom we feel and our openness to new opportunities.
I have spoken of the South Node as the repository of unprocessed experience such as repressed trauma, suppressed emotion, conflicting beliefs which create confusing realities and the residue of unresolved experience from past lives. The more we cling to the past or refuse to release pain and resentment, the more dysfunctional our lives become. The more we deny our shadow side, the more we project onto others, exercising judgment and blame. Our consciousness becomes constipated, so to speak. Our clarity is clogged with unreleased debris.
I’ve mentioned in the past that eclipses allow us to see into the shadows, whether it be the reflected collective consciousness that plays out as “reality,” or the unexamined corners of our personal subconscious. We may not like what we see, but this is the time to open our eyes to all of it.
The Nodal Axis and the Full Moon axis are 5 degrees apart in Gemini and Sagittarius. Gemini is driven by curiosity. Ruled by Mercury, this sign gathers information which it feeds to Sagittarius whose job it is to organize the data into a coherent view of the world. Sagittarius has a passion for truth and never stops in its quest for the bigger picture. Sagittarius is a paradigm creator and holds a vision based on spiritual ideals.
Perhaps you’re beginning to see the potential impact this powerful Full Moon can have on those who cling to the Big Lie. This Moon is asking us all to open our eyes and face the truth. Eclipses are catalysts of change, rather like rocket launchers. Their signs indicate the qualities of energy at play while the Houses tell us what area of experience will be affected. The Moon and South Node are in the 12th house of letting go while the Sun and North Node are in the 6th.
The 6th house addresses our habits, our daily routines, our health, our work and our ability to discern what nourishes and what diminishes us. It’s the Virgo House. The North Node symbolizes the direction of our evolution. Also in the 6th are Black Moon Lilith and Sedna at 28 degrees of Taurus. The Sun is illuminating a possible future. Sedna calls to us to awaken and expand our consciousness into new realms. Black Moon Lilith demands authenticity.
And here’s the kicker. Squaring the Sun/Moon axis is Jupiter in the first degree of Pisces. Jupiter has temporarily escaped the restrictive influence of Saturn, first through 2020 in Capricorn and this year in Aquarius. Jupiter is the “ruler” of Sagittarius and “co-ruler” of Pisces with Neptune which is opposite the USA natal Neptune for the next two years. Jupiter is free to expand our consciousness, to deepen our faith, to trigger our hope and awaken our joy.
I’ve said it before and I emphasize it again – these are deeply spiritual times. Evolution is at work – and this eclipse will act as a second stage booster, launching us beyond the gravitational pull of our old destructive paradigm.
Retrograde Season
On May 23rd Saturn made its station and turned retrograde. On May 29th Mercury will do the same. Forget about the conventional “wisdom” of Mercury retrograde. Retrograde periods are a chance for us to reflect. Saturn has revealed the cause and effect between our consciousness and the manifested reality it produces. If we’re not happy with that reality, we need to go back to the cause – our thoughts and feelings, our choices, our attitudes, our beliefs and world view. This is the matrix of manifestation.
Mercury retrograde to the rescue. Mercury is winding down his current cycle which began on February 8th when he joined the Sun in Aquarius. During 2021, Mercury will retrograde and conjunct the Sun in all the Air signs. On June 10th, the new cycle begins in Gemini. Aquarius asked us to reflect on the paradox of independence and belonging. Gemini is asking us to focus on clarity of perception. We can’t keep running all information through our conditioned mind or limited belief system to justify or fortify our opinions. Over the next three months new information will come to light. It’s important to listen, to keep our minds open and to welcome new ideas. Fixed minds are stagnant minds and begin to atrophy. Open minds are continually nourished by new information.
To make the most of the gift of Mercury’s retrograde, take the time to reflect on the past four months. What choices produced a fruitful harvest? Which lie fallow? What is ready to be released? And what is your most ideal vision of the future? With Jupiter as the balance point for this Full Moon, our dreams are enhanced – both waking and sleeping. Allow Jupiter to expand you. Allow Gemini to inspire your quest for new ideas. Feel into Sagittarius and direct your gaze toward the stars. Dream big, not just for yourself, but for our world and all of humanity. Then give those dreams to the collective unconscious where they can seed and take root.
The Full Moon chart features a Grand Trine between transiting Saturn at 13 degrees of Aquarius, the USA natal Saturn at 14 degrees of Libra and the transiting North Node at 10 Gemini. The future we create for our nation depends upon how much responsibility, maturity, integrity and truth we bring to the table.
The work we do to release, to clear, to open and to raise our expectations of a more beautiful future makes a difference. There are millions of light workers around the world seeding consciousness with positive thoughts and feelings, raising the collective frequency to allow more lovingkindness, more gratitude, more appreciation and reverence for all that is sacred. This is what seeds our future and every one of us can make a contribution.
Viewing the Eclipse
The West Coast will be blessed with a 15 minute view of totality that produces the blood-red Moon. On the East Coast the Sun will rise and the Moon set before totality, but you can still see some of the eclipse above the western horizon, since it begins about two hours earlier. Seize the opportunity to fix this powerful image in your psyche and let it inform you for the rest of the year.
