Solar eclipses, especially those taking place near the North Node of the Moon, are activating events. This Thursday, June 10th, people who live where the Sun has risen will get to witness a Ring of Fire eclipse taking place in Gemini. The West Coast will miss out on the visuals, but for those of you in the East, set your alarm and grab your eclipse glasses. You won’t want to miss this spectacle at 6:53 a.m. EDT astrological time, which I’ve recently learned is not the same as astronomical timing. So get out early enough to watch the Moon cross the face of the Sun. Totality will be amazing, but do not observe without protective glasses because the rim of the Sun will remain visible.
Air Signs
The three Air signs of the Zodiac are all about the mental realm. Gemini is a youthful sign of curiosity. This is where Mercury shines. It wants information – to receive it, to share it, to allow it to develop a perception of the world. In Libra we form relationships with other people, make friends and gather our tribe. Venus holds sway in Libra bringing in the feminine delights – beauty, peace, harmony and love. Our information is enhanced by intuition, sensations, emotions and aesthetic appreciation. In Aquarius we take our information to the world – we share our expertise and wisdom, align with like-minded others for the benefit of the whole. As we transition into the Aquarian Age, knowledge and wisdom become paramount.
During 2021 Mercury will make its retrogrades in all three air signs. In February it was in Aquarius, June in Gemini and late September it turns retrograde in Libra. Retrogrades give us time to reconsider, rethink, reflect and revise.
Air signs carry the potential for wisdom – a balanced understanding of the wholeness of consciousness. All this year the Nodes of the Moon have been moving clockwise through Gemini and Sagittarius. We are bathed in information. And with this Solar Eclipse, the pace picks up. More information, new ideas, new perceptions. So much will be available, almost like a meteor shower of new insights. The best way to approach it is with Gemini curiosity and all the presence and attention you can muster.
We all know how thoughts trigger feelings and reactions. We recognize that everyone has a way of seeing the world – obvious evidence of the diversity with which we arrange information. We live in polarized times and the realities are growing further apart. This stresses the system and forces choice, change and hopefully evolution. We are living in a stressful environment. Some people can’t handle it and go on a shooting spree. Others make the most of it and grope their way through the Cloud of Unknowing toward the future of their dreams.
We’re all wondering “When will this be over? When can we get back to normal?” A segment of our society is clinging to a past that worked for them. A larger majority is choosing to face the facts, gather their tools and get to work on building a new world – one more like the Eden of our ancestral dreams.
Ring of Fire Eclipse
First of all, doesn’t that sound mythic – like a challenge on a hero’s quest? “I shall pass through the ring of fire!” claims the Knight in shining armor.
A Ring of Fire Eclipse is a total solar eclipse but since the Moon has moved away from Earth in her orbit, her image isn’t large enough to block out the Sun. So a circle of solar flames surrounds a black hole! Let that tickle your imagination. This juncture in our Rite of Passage may get intense with more heat and pressure, but know that metaphorically we are in the birth canal and here comes another contraction.
We will be asked to do something heroic – open our minds and pay attention to our thoughts, our habitual thoughts in particular. Watch how we react to news – our go-to emotion. Find a way to disengage the trigger and relax back into spectator mode. That doesn’t mean we just sit this one out. It means we have an opportunity to wake up a bit more. That’s what this whole passage is about – awakening. In fact history will refer to this time as The Great Awakening.
Gemini energy is abundant, and our minds will be activated, as retrograde Mercury conjuncts the Sun and begins his new cycle. Thoughts will come to us – ideas, solutions, inventions, realizations. The Book of Life will open and more light will beam forth. This would be a good time to lean on the pillar of Unknowing. Don’t jump to conclusions. Don’t fall back on attitudes. Instead, watch where your mind wants to go and see what’s there. Question it. Where did I get this idea? Is it still true? Or is it blocking me from the truth? You won’t know yet – this is the information stage of wisdom. The more detached we can be, the more fodder for our awakening and growing wisdom.
Sun, Moon and Mercury are all transiting the USA 7th House of relationship – our personal ones, of course, but also our global ones. Part of awakening is recognizing a larger context – not a country, or state, but an entire planet teeming with threatened life. The Pandemic has revealed how connected we are by Air. We breathe the same substance, in and out, and right now the Air is sick with disease, misinformation, ugly discourse, fear, violence and death. Our air is polluted by our toxic thoughts, as well as our toxic waste. Creation begins with thought. Every moment of our lives we are creating our future with our thoughts.
Habitual thoughts create attitudes, which in turn become the context of our life. This month we can experiment with the connection between thoughts and energy. What happens to our energy when we think a negative thought? If it’s about ourselves, it is defeating and deflating. If it’s about another, it can morph into growing resentment which drags us deeper into low frequency feelings.
Humanity is poised for a collective quantum leap in consciousness. It’s happening one person at a time, all around the world. At a certain point we will reach a critical mass and the scales will tip toward an awakened collective. Then our world will change dramatically. For now, the best we can do is maintain an elevated frequency which we accomplish by keeping a watch on our thoughts, weeding out negative expectations and cultivating positive emotions. Laughter is essential. It helps shift dark energy. We can cultivate gratitude, compassion and joy which lift our frequency into realms where darkness cannot follow.
Eclipse square Neptune
Neptune is working his fog machine full time right now. Mercury in Gemini is all about perception, but we’re peering into deep fog. We can’t see clearly, so how do we move forward? We activate our intuition. We tune into our feelings. We bring our bodies into the deliberation process. The body is our greatest bio-feedback machine and can point out blockages quickly. The other ally is faith, and Jupiter will remain in Pisces until the end of July to accompany us through the narrows. Jupiter turns retrograde on the Summer Solstice and heads back toward Aquarius, but for now it is beaming encouragement, strengthening our faith that there is a much bigger plan than we can imagine, and it is benevolent.
Remember that Neptune is opposing its natal position in the USA chart. A nation that was founded on a desire for religious freedom is being asked to examine its collective spirituality. This, like everything, must evolve. The dogma that saw us through earlier centuries cannot carry us forward now. The Creation Myth that we have believed for five thousand years is due for an upgrade. We create our paradigms based on the information we have at the time. We have new information now and more is on the way – a new paradigm in the making. We need to come up with one that sees all life as sacred, that values kindness and caring, that honors the soul in all others and celebrates the glory of a diverse humanity. This is the Aquarian Ideal. Humanity has a great adventure ahead, learning how to create a world of embodied Spirit.
Mars opposite Pluto
Last Saturday Mars made an exact opposition to Pluto. On the one hand, we could view this aspect as problematic. It may involve increased aggression in our patriarchal society. With Pluto in Capricorn it suggests more control, more dominator behavior, more anger and volatility. But every planet has a higher potential. Pluto is tilling the soil of our collective unconscious, digging up artefacts we need to examine within ourselves, such as 250+ years of abusive behavior to one another and our home planet.
Mars will trigger Pluto to release more secrets. It is currently at the final degree of Cancer prompting either fear and insecurity or compassion and caring. If we succumb to fear, we drag our collective frequency deeper into darkness. This is a chance to resonate with the higher frequencies of positive emotions. This is the esoteric spiritual practice of light-workers.
Conclusion
The Lunar Eclipse at the New Moon in Sagittarius two weeks ago occurred at the “tail of the dragon.” It was about releasing what no longer serves us, what keeps us invested in our past because we have unfinished business. There is still time to do that work. In fact, we are always ingesting, absorbing and releasing our way through life. This dramatic Solar Eclipse is at the “head of the dragon” looking toward the future. Now it’s about embodying our vision, taking steps toward manifesting a dream, or taking a stand based on our sense of justice. Set an intention to be master of your thoughts rather than victim. The thoughts you focus on now are the building blocks of the future you will inhabit.
