Just a short note about Pluto’s sign shift. The Lord of the Underworld enters Aquarius at 4:50 p.m. PST on January 20th. (FYI football fans – that’s ten minutes before the 49ers/Packers playoff game.)
There are a few highlights I didn’t share earlier. The Sun also enters Aquarius early in the morning of the 20th, so Pluto and the Sun are conjunct. As if Pluto wasn’t energized enough, the Sun boosts its intensity. Furthermore, Zero degrees of Aquarius was where Jupiter and Saturn came together on the December Solstice 2020. Our first wake-up call to meet the Aquarian Age.
Jupiter and Saturn are known as “social planets.” They mark a transition in our solar system from the personal to the transpersonal. These two gas giants reunite every 20 years, signaling a new phase of sociopolitical development. For the last 200 years conjunctions have been in Earth signs. 2020 was the first conjunction in an Air sign in 800 years. So the cycle we are beginning is a long one. It will form a new era. Pluto inhabits Aquarius for 20 years. The next Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in Aquarius will be in 76 years, but every 20 years Jupiter and Saturn will unite in the Air signs Libra and Gemini, supporting our transition into the Aquarian Age, a cycle that will last around 2600 years.
Jupiter and Saturn progressed to a sextile relationship on June 19th last year. A sextile is an activating aspect, and these two planets are still in close sextile, with Saturn at 5 Pisces and Jupiter at 6 Taurus. On August 19th of this year, they will make their first square. Jupiter will be at 17+ Gemini and Saturn at 17+ Pisces. The first square carries a similar meaning to the first square between Sun and Moon in the lunar cycle. It brings about a crisis. It signals a time to pause and consider our social progress from the conjunction of 2020. This is a period of adjustment. As we look back at the past 4 years, we have the advantage of hindsight. We have been dealing with the fallout from the previous administration and the attempted insurrection. 2024 carries the potential for accountability, but that’s not enough. Hopefully we will make wise choices about our future in November.
As Pluto enters Aquarius, Uranus, one of its “rulers,” is conjunct our natal Vesta, suggesting we tend our inner light, not just individually, but collectively. It’s imperative to remember that our nation was once a light to the whole world. Millions of people migrated here with dreams of freedom to make a better life for themselves and their progeny. We must rekindle that light and hold it sacred. Freedom is essential to evolution.
Uranus is transiting the USA 5th House of creative self-expression. The House is also about fun, pleasure and joy. Another theme is children, including our own inner child and how we tend to her needs. Where is our joy? Maybe we abandoned it along with our inner child.
Saturn in Pisces in the 3rd House may bring up our addictions, in whatever form. It may pop some of our illusory bubbles. It can also assist us in creating a spiritual foundation for the future. Pisces is the final sign of the Zodiac, so it’s about endings, completions. What loose ends need tying? What beliefs are no longer valid? (3rd House) Saturn in Pisces is reminding us of our psychic connection to the Divine Love in which we are bathed.
With Jupiter in Gemini, more information will become available. We need to relax our fixed beliefs and attitudes and open to more truth. Gemini is about perception – the point of view we adopt from the information we receive. The more expanded our information base, the better we are equipped to make informed choices.
As Pluto moves through Aquarius, we will be faced with paradox. With its dual rulers, we get conflicting messages. On the one hand, Saturn, sole ruler of Capricorn, wants to create structure. Uranus wants freedom without restriction. Saturn seeks order. Uranus loves revolutionary ideas and breaking old social conventions. Uranus emphasizes the uniqueness of us as individuals, while simultaneously awakening us to our oneness as a species. Our Saturnian paradigm intends to keep us within controlled boundaries. The challenge for us in the decades ahead is to resolve these paradoxes.
