It’s been an eventful couple of weeks since the lunar eclipse. Our former president showed his true colors in the first of four trials, not being content to just perjure himself, but whining about witch hunts and haranguing the judge. You’d think a stable genius would know better. His codefendant offspring were well-behaved but displayed alarming signs of early onset dementia.
We got a sneak preview of next year’s election, as well as Pluto’s January ingress into Aquarius, the sign of the people, as voters turned out in droves to claim their freedom and protect our democracy. Greg Sargent suggested in the Washington Post that right-wing culture wars appear to be losing their potency. What was the right-wing response? You guessed it. They concluded it was Mitch McConnel’s fault for not being sufficiently extremist.
So what happened in the Heavens to cast some light on these events? First of all the Karma Lord, Saturn, turned direct on November 4th, at 0 degrees of Pisces, after its five-month retrograde. Keep in mind it is the sole ruler of Capricorn. Pluto was inching its way through the 28th degree of Capricorn, sounding the bell for the end of patriarchal dominance. Venus was occupying the final potent degree of Virgo, emphasizing discernment. She moved into one of her domiciles, Libra, symbolized by the scales of justice, just after midnight on November 9th.
Perhaps the final blow, however, came from Mars opposite Uranus, bringing a surprise strike for independence and revealing that the American public is waking up.
Now we turn our attention to the New Moon in the watery depths of Scorpio, which occurs on Monday, November 13th, at 1:27 AM Pacific time, in the USA 11th House of collective consciousness.
New Lunar Cycle
I wrote a bit about Scorpio last time, but we’ll take a deeper look now because the coming month has the potential to be intense. Scorpio is known for intensity. The two rulers of Scorpio are Mars and Pluto, both of which are activated in the New Moon chart.
Scorpio is a water sign, associated with the Underworld and thus the Unconscious. The New Moon is an activating sextile to Pluto, the Lord of this realm, whose function is to churn up the waters and see what rises to the surface. Secrets, fears, phobias, repressed trauma, suppressed emotions, toxic material, corruption – all of this is on the Scorpio agenda. Pluto wants to clean house and our collective consciousness is going to get a good scrubbing.
The Sun and Moon are less than two degrees away from Mars which is only one degree from a perfect opposition to Uranus in our 5th House. Uranus is an activating planet, loaded with energy and big surprises. We cannot predict what will come because Uranus always does the unexpected. Whatever happens, however, will quake with electricity. Uranus is retrograde in Taurus heading for an exact conjunction with our natal Vesta on December 17th. While Vesta is associated with spiritual devotion, it is also an intensifier. This means things will heat up through the end of this year.
I must mention that Mars is conjunct Ceres at 24 Scorpio. We are so focused on domestic and international conflict that we are ignoring the climate crisis which is on the horizon like a huge tsunami. Perhaps you have seen Prince William advertising a PBS special on Sunday night, November 12th, featuring people who are engaged in what he calls “saving the planet.” So far we have been warned, threatened and terrorized by grim reports of disaster to come. This hasn’t inspired humanity to action, but rather driven us to plunge our heads deeper in the ground. I’m intrigued by this positive approach – let’s focus on the heroes and their great work to inspire hope and commitment, rather than fear and avoidance.
A few words about Mars. He is the sole ruler of Aries, and while he is known as a warrior, he is also a hero. Anger, aggression and violence are the shadow expressions of Aries and Mars. Our news is eclipsed by Martian shadow; but Mars also carries the Divine Masculine energy which is protective, innovative, eager to discover and create something new and fulfill its potential.
There’s a lot to be angry about right now, but I suggest our anger is only a reaction to our fear and grief. One full Pluto cycle from the founding of a dream, we find ourselves mired in a nightmare. We have experienced so much loss and if we keep stuffing our grief into our inner depths, it will build energy like a volcano. Eventually it will erupt. I have found that devoting time each week to feeling and honoring grief, releases the pressure much like the valve on a pressure cooker.
We tend to avoid what we call “negative” feelings because we fear pain and think if we open the door we will be overwhelmed. But we have the option to dip into these feelings a bit at a time and show them the respect they deserve.
So that is one way to take care of ourselves this month. Scorpio is calling to us to explore our depths, and will reward us with renewal. Mars is lending us the courage we need for this venture. Pluto is tilling the stagnant ground and releasing into our conscious minds material that we’re ready to process. We can be receptive – that’s the function of the Moon. Whatever comes to us, we give it attention. It is a gift from the god who guards our unconscious.
Uranus is telling us to take care of our bodies (Taurus). I’m working with an amazing healer in France at the moment. He is revealing to me the many layers of buried psychic material that my body carries in cells and organs. The body is a vast library of unconscious material which can result in disease if allowed to fester.
Years ago I took a journaling class inspired by the work of Ira Progoff. One of the most revealing journal techniques was dialoguing with the body. If you are wrestling with a health issue that eludes understanding, you might try this technique. Write to your body, explain your dilemma and ask for answers. What does the body want you to know? Ask how you can help it heal. Ask what it wants from you. Then write its response.
In the beginning you will be skeptical. Oh, this is just me writing what I want to hear, or some version of that. But stick with it over a period of time. The unconscious realms of your mind have been alerted. The body has been waiting for your questions. It is eager to inform. It will send you dreams. It will whisper in your ear. It will drop clues. At the very least, you will establish a mind/body connection. The body responds to positive feedback. Before I fall asleep, I thank my body for all the work it did that day. I send it love and gratitude.
The Finger of God
The Sun and Moon are the apex of a Yod consisting of a sextile between two planets that point to a third which is 150 degrees away from both. The New Moon is quincunx – 150 degrees – away from our natal Chiron in our 4th House at 20+ Aries and our natal Mars at 21+ degrees of Gemini. I could probably write a small book about this configuration, but in short, the next month provides an opportunity for us to use our minds and energy (Mars/Gemini) to initiate healing (Chiron in Aries) of the wounds (4th House) to our collective consciousness (Sun/Moon in 11th House in Scorpio).
And how does this healing happen? One by one by one. Everything we think, say, do, create, every attitude, emotion, choice is stored in the quantum field. When we take full responsibility for our own state of consciousness and raise our personal frequency, we contribute to collective healing and awakening. It may be only a drop in the ocean, but when millions of us do it, it has a vast impact, one that isn’t visible immediately because the quantum field is unconscious to humans. Nevertheless, we are changing the collective unconscious with our personal contribution.
This is the impact of the Feminine energy – not controlling, not enforcing, but shifting the context, the space in which collective consciousness is held. Creating a loving matrix, a safe space of unconditional love, an energetic womb, so to speak, that operates at a frequency in which our finest qualities are supported.
When there is a Yod, nicknamed a Finger of God, it is a Divine message. In this New Moon chart the message is to transmute the masculine energy from its lower vibratory expression of aggression to a higher and more refined frequency of support and protection.
We could include Eris and the North Node which are occupying the same degree of Aries at 24+, forming a perfect quincunx to Ceres. The North Node is a portal to the future. Conjunct Eris it reminds us that the new world we create must be grounded in authenticity. Centuries of pretense have disempowered us. Worrying about appearance has cut us off from our depths. A successful New World can only be created by an enlightened consciousness and that consciousness is found not out there in the illusory world of appearances, but in our core.
Dig deep for your authentic self this month and honor whatever comes up. It’s all part of our evolutionary journey to freedom.
