Energy continues to build this new lunar cycle but the focus shifts to Gemini, sign of duality, ruled by Mercury the psychic function of the mind. Medical science confuses mind with brain. Metaphysically speaking, the brain is only one organ of consciousness and definitely not the creator of it. We know now that every cell in our body is conscious. We know that our hearts contain 40,000 brain cells. We’re just beginning to probe the question of consciousness. It’s like fish finally deciding to investigate water.
As I’m sure you’re aware, energy is increasing. We are passing through the photon belt, being bombarded with packets of light/information 24/7. We just had an intense lunar eclipse in Scorpio. The Sun has become active again. Last week there was a mass coronal ejection. Lucky for us it happened on the far side of the Sun or we might have been fried. There was an earthquake on Mars! And Monday night – Memorial Day – we will witness the sky alive with meteors from a comet that broke up in 1995.
Some astronomers estimate 140,000 meteors per hour! Others suggest it might not happen at all. But if it does, peak display for this event is between 9:30 and 10:30 pm PDT. Adjust for your time zone and pray for clear skies. You do not want to miss this celestial spectacle. It won’t happen again for 72 years, six Jupiter cycles away.
Jupiter/Mars
Jupiter and Mars make an explosive conjunction on Sunday, May 29th, in Aries the first sign of the Zodiac and symbol of new beginnings. Mars begins a new two-year cycle through the Zodiac. Jupiter initiates new growth for the next 12 years. Look back two years and 12 years. Where were you then? What’s different now? What growth themes are emerging?
Both these planets are powerhouses. Jupiter is a social planet and addresses our collective evolution. Mars is a personal planet and operates within us as an activating force. Mars is initiative, action, making things happen. In Aries it is youthful, impulsive, aggressive, sometimes disruptive and single-minded in its pursuit of a goal. Brought into harmony with Venus and Mercury, however, Mars has the ability to get things done.
In the USA chart this conjunction takes place in our 4th House – the foundation of our social contract, the depths of our collective psyche, which has taken hit after hit of horror. Our world is reflecting the violence, rage, injustice and hatred boiling deep within. It is mirroring the split not only within our society, but between forces of light and darkness, and each side of the divide sees the other as darkness.
This is the context of our world right now – it is intense – and we are being called upon to find a way to integrate it. I would wager that all of you are wrestling with some issue at this moment. Anxiety is high. Our nervous systems are distressed. We are on information overload and it is incessant. I won’t discuss the mass murder in Uvalde, Texas except to express deep sympathy for this grief-stricken population. The point is that we are all scrambling for balance, searching for ways to integrate all this energy. Some of us can’t handle the intensity and are driven to violent action. Many of us are hanging on by our fingernails. A determined few are working to transmute the darkness. We’re all in the same matrix of uncertainty and what doesn’t help is false information.
At this critical time in our social evolution, our nation divided and antagonistic, the Sun and Moon come together to focus on polarity.
New Moon at 9’03 Gemini
At the Gemini New Moon Mercury is the star. It’s time to free our minds of artificial prisons of belief. The New Moon occurs at the end of the 6th House conjunct our collective natal Gonggong – not one but 2 Gongs going off in our heads. According to Alan Clay at Dwarf Planet University, Gonggong represents turning points in the realm of mind. He is a Chinese god who, as myth relates, banged his head on a mountain and tilted the Earth off axis. The metaphor is astounding for this coming month. Our world is being shaken up and our minds are about to tilt.
Apparently Gonggong heals the mind from false beliefs and introduces insight, leading to entire new paradigms, through these “aha” moments. We already know that this month the January 6th Committee will hold public hearings about the insurrection at our Capitol. They have dropped some pretty powerful hints about the extent of this conspiracy and the truth will be revealed beginning June 9th. Gonggong assures us that minds will shift.
Einstein stated that we cannot solve problems within the same mindset that created them. We need new stories, new awareness, a new paradigm of interdependence and mutual support. A minority of our population is stubbornly clinging to falsehoods that are threatening the future of our democracy. This year is critical. The choices we make in 2022 must come from a more enlightened mindset. That’s where Gonggong and Mercury take the lead.
Mercury is most comfortable in Gemini and Virgo. In Gemini he is busy gathering information. In Virgo he sifts through it all for the nuggets. Gonggong goes further assembling the nuggets into a more expansive understanding. While the Sun and Moon meet with Gonggong, all the outer planets make aspects with Mercury.
Saturn at 26 Aquarius is squaring Mercury at 26 Taurus. Taurus is about embodiment, so we aren’t just dealing with ideas, we’re embodying new perception. Saturn is showing us the limitations of our belief system along with the karmic suffering it brings.
Uranus, the planet of awakening, is in a wide conjunction to Mercury, but part of a Taurus stellium which includes the North Node of the Moon – our evolutionary compass. The Fixed Star Algol, the eye of Medusa, which we discussed two weeks ago, is tightly conjunct Mercury at the very point where the Sun was during the eclipse. The information here concerns the abuse of the Feminine and the resultant outrage. Medusa’s eye turns everyone to stone. We have been frozen in a false paradigm for 5000 years. The stellium concludes with Sedna at 29 Taurus, the new outer limit of our solar system and the guiding force of our spiritual path.
Pluto forms a trine from Capricorn, Eris is semi-sextile from Aries and Haumea is quincunx Mercury from Libra. Pluto reveals corruption and phobias. Eris demands authenticity and a shift away from our damaged ego perspective. Haumea is already bringing in the new energies that will regenerate our nation over the next few decades. Clearly the star of this lunar cycle is Mercury. So how do we unlock our frozen minds? Are we willing to see a bigger picture? Are we even willing to listen and consider letting in a different perspective? There will be a lot of pressure for that this month and it could be upsetting for those who have been deluded into a false sense of security within the comfy familiar.
We can take comfort in knowing that all of this cosmic pressure is bringing us through an alchemical transformation, but that doesn’t make it any easier. So where do we turn for help? Venus just entered Taurus, one of her domains. The other morning I was thinking about the enormous amount of energy pouring into us. What do we do with it? I realized there are only two vessels large enough to hold all this energy and they are Love and Creativity, two expressions of the Divine.
With this month’s download of energy/information, our minds can end up spinning in circles. We need to stay grounded in our bodies. Walk, swim, get out in nature, connect with Mother Earth. And we can practice coherence, channel that energy into our hearts, feel gratitude, appreciation, compassion and grow our capacity for a more inclusive love. Then we can direct all that love and inspiration through creative outlets. Finally we can look to Ceres in Cancer for comfort and nurturing. This is how we balance the scales that are tipping so disastrously toward increased toxic masculinity – more control, more suppression, more aggression, more abuse and frustration turned violent.
Coming up
There are various energetic shifts this month. Three planets reverse direction. Mercury turns direct on June 3rd still at 26+ Taurus. It has slowed down and is hanging at this degree for another week. Saturn turns retrograde on June 4th at 25+ Aquarius. Finally Neptune joins the retrograde trend on June 28 at 25 Pisces. Lots of action around 25-26 degrees. You might want to check your own chart to see what areas of your life are being affected.
Here’s a calendar of events for the first half of June:
5/30 New Moon in Gemini, Meteor Shower
6/3 Mercury turns direct
6/4 Saturn turns retrograde
6/10 Mercury trine Pluto – input from the Underworld
6/11 Venus conjunct Uranus at 16+ Taurus – love sparks
6/13 Mercury moves forward into Gemini again
6/14 Full Moon at 23+ Sagittarius – assembling a vision
For the next two weeks we are gathering information. At the Full Moon we begin to assemble a new point of view. This is a great time for meditation. It’s very important that we discipline our minds, because our thoughts and emotions create our reality. All this information can get stuck in a loop whipping us up into a frenzy of doomsday scenarios, perpetuating the status quo. Meditation gets us grounded. We can go within and sit with ourselves, release the mind chatter and listen to our depths where the truth is trying to emerge.
