New Moon in Gemini: Information Overwhelm

Are you on information overload? Is your calendar stressed? I know mine is. Everyone I speak with is feeling the pressure and they all have major issues coming up. As I reflected on this, I realized that we are being overwhelmed for a purpose.

Many times I have written about Ilya Prigogine’s Theory of Dissipative Structures, but for the new subscribers, I’ll give a brief summary. This Russian chemist won the Nobel Prize in 1977 for developing a theory about how transformation occurs. Examining the chemical structure of compounds under an electron microscope, he found that when he added energy, turned up the heat in other words, the structure expanded. There was a point, however, when the structure could no longer accommodate the energy. It disintegrated and burst into energetic spirals.

I think that is what we’re experiencing now. The heat is increasing, our structures are under stress, and at some point they will shatter and transform. This applies to our institutions on a collective level as well as the structures we have created in our own psyches.

When the Mayan Calendar completed its cycle in 2012, the December Solstice aligned with the Galactic Center and Earth entered the photon belt. This is an immense region of space filled with electromagnetic radiation. For 2000 years, most of the Aquarian Age, our solar system will travel through this energy field transforming our planet, our DNA and our consciousness.

With this New Moon on June 17-18th, followed shortly by the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere, we get another evolutionary boost. The Sun and Moon come together at 27 Gemini opposite the Galactic Center, a super-massive Black Hole of about 4 million solar masses, that resides at the center of our galaxy.

My astrophysicist sister Laura explained that a black hole is a huge gravitational field which pulls material into its vortex. As matter approaches, it collides with other matter/atoms and heats up, forming an accretion disk that glows brightly and radiates energy throughout the galaxy. As our Sun and Moon align with this center, we are directly receiving the radiation from its event horizon. Energy, light and information are synonymous. Cosmic energy is overwhelming us with information.

New Moon in Gemini – Great Mutable Cross

We know that New Moons are seed times, and Gemini is about information. We are being seeded with new information that is gradually shifting our consciousness into an expanded state. Mercury is also in Gemini, one of his two favorite signs, the other being Virgo. What does information do? It opens our minds to new possibilities, allowing us to perceive reality through a wider lens.

The Sun and Moon come together at 9:30 pm Pacific on Saturday night. Their conjunction includes the asteroid goddess Juno and occurs in our collective USA 7th House of relationships. Juno is about committed relationships.

The New Moon forms a T-Square with Neptune in Pisces and Ceres in Virgo. It further forms a Great Mutable Cross with the USA Selena which is conjunct the Galactic Center in Sagittarius.

So what does all of this mean? Selena illuminates our path forward. She manifests as a shimmering ribbon of moonlight. When she is activated, as she is at this New Moon, the message is clear that our evolutionary path is unfolding.

And we are prepared to grow and change. The past several years have honed us through adversity, loss, chaos, uncertainty, divisiveness, pandemic and threats to our liberty. We have faced multiple challenges that made us stronger. We have experience in handling change. A Mutable Cross reveals our readiness to shift from fixed opinions, static states, stuck places, old habits and reactive patterns of the past. It’s time to move on and we’re getting a huge boost from the Cosmos.

Before we look at the planets that form the mutable cross, I want to give you a feel for the energies involved in the signs. Cardinal signs create new structure, Fixed signs solidify and institutionalize those structures. With mutable signs, we shift to process. Mutable signs are transitional stages between what is and what is to come.

We begin with Gemini, an Air sign ruled by Mercury which is in residence. This sign is about taking in information/energy and expanding our awareness. It includes dissemination of information through writing, speaking, teaching and research.

We move on to Virgo, an Earth sign, where we sift through the abundant information and pick out the gems. Mercury’s curiosity is now challenged to develop discernment in order to separate opinion from fact, and value from waste.

Sagittarius is a fire sign in which we develop a vision. Ruled by Jupiter, this sign represents our need to understand the nature of the universe and our place within it. Sagittarius adds intuition to our tool kit, amalgamating information into a belief system or paradigm. With Sagittarius there is a continual drive to expand comprehension, to search for truth, until we can align with our spiritual source and universal laws.

Finally we come to the final sign of the Zodiac, Pisces, with dual rulers Jupiter and Neptune. Pisces opens our hearts to compassion, unconditional love, a longing to connect with the Divine and ultimately the realization of our Oneness with All That Is.

Neptune is the great dissolver, always attempting to remove blockages, blur boundaries and encourage us to surrender with trust in the Bigger Plan. Neptune reminds us of our Oneness, with one another, with our planet and with Spirit.

Ceres is the only dwarf planet that resides in our personal realm. She was promoted at the same time that Pluto was demoted. Ceres lies between Mars and Saturn, in the asteroid belt which is the rocky transition between personal and social planets.

Ceres is the great nurturing mother, loving and grieving for her children lost in the Underworld, providing for our needs, rejoicing when we return to the light. She is a symbol of Mother Earth. This mutable cross is asking us to perceive Earth as a living consciousness, undergoing transformation along with us. Opposite Neptune, she reminds us of our Oneness with our home, and asks us to trust her spiritual unfolding.

Juno is telling us it’s time to commit to building and nurturing loving relationships, including the one with our beloved planet, Ceres. Neptune suggests we trust in a higher power and make the shift from Me to We. This is the agenda of the Age of Aquarius, the gradual awakening to our oneness as a species and a shift of priority from the individual to the collective. This frightens some people because they worry they will lose their identity, but our species, like our planet, thrives on diversity. We will not lose our identity, but we will elevate our focus to what is best for humanity, not just a privileged few.

Supporting Cast

On June 11th, Pluto moved back into Capricorn and on the 15th Sedna moved into Gemini, forming an “out of sign” trine with Pluto. Sedna is our destination, the new outer limit of our solar system, the expanded state of humanity’s collective consciousness in our future. Pluto is revisiting unfinished business in our social and political affairs. Expect more secrets to be revealed, more contention as we approach an election year, more tension between progressive and conservative camps. But don’t get mired in the news. Sedna is assuring us that she and Pluto are working together to transform chaos into a reformed, enlightened society. Our democracy is evolving along with us.

Pluto is getting help from two dwarf goddesses. It is square Eris in Aries and Haumea in Libra. Pluto is an agent of transformation revealing the dysfunction and destructive aspects of our society. Eris transforms through chaos, focusing on injustice and inequality. A society as divided as ours cannot thrive. Eris demands true democracy in which everyone counts, everyone has a seat at the table and no one has power over anyone else. Domination will be a thing of the past as we move into right relationship with ourselves, others and our planet. The North Node is headed for a conjunction with Eris on November 27th this year. The choices and decisions we make between now and then are critical in determining the outcome.

As Pluto and Eris destroy the old, Haumea is conceiving the new. An agent of regeneration and rebirth, she is conjunct the South Node, building something new out of the ashes of our past. These two meet up on July 28 just before the Full Moon in Aquarius.

Chiron

Chiron is within one degree of its natal placement, headed for our Chiron return next April 2024. Chiron turns retrograde on July 24th, within 10 minutes of arc to its natal position. We are in a healing crisis now that continues through next year. The final return happens on February 18, 2025. While this return addresses our collective identity, it also applies to each of us. The whole is healed through the sum of its parts.

Finger of God

Jupiter is sextile Saturn which is conjunct natal Ceres. Hopefully we will see progress in our goal to reduce carbon emissions and replace fossil fuels with green technology.

These two planets – our two social planets – create a Finger of God pattern with Makemake, the dwarf that helps us see the bigger picture. You will recall that Jupiter and Saturn came together at 0 degrees of Aquarius on the December 21, 2020. Now they are sextile, activating one another, revealing the evolution of their relationship over the last 3 years. A New Moon Finger of God is a hopeful sign of the healing and peace to come as we lift up out of separation and conflict, and find common ground in an expanded vision of who we really are, manifestations of the Divine, learning how to put all the disparate parts back together in a functional, loving whole.

This lunar cycle will overwhelm us even more with energy and information. We can remember that its purpose is transformational. Resistance cannot stop our evolution, it can only cause us great stress and exhaust us. We can take the next 28 days to work the mutable process, not stopping with information and opinion forming, but taking a good look at the details, questioning the validity and the source. We can separate the nurturing truth from the chaff of propaganda, lies and manipulation. We can clarify our values and develop a vision of the future we hope to live in. Finally we can go deep within to connect with Soul, with the Higher Self which is the source of our intuition. It’s time to remember who we really are and begin to live from that sacred self.
