When the ego weeps for what it has lost . . . the soul rejoices for what it has found.” Sufi Proverb
We are leaving 2021 in the dust and kicking off 2022 with a big bang. On January 1st the Sun trines Uranus and the very next day is the New Moon. After years of loss, 2022 promises to be a year of discovery and our souls will get to rejoice at what we have found.
The Sun is our life force, our inner light – in other words, our Spirit – and each of us expresses one unique facet of the Divine. When our Spirit collaborates with Uranus, we are drawn forward into higher consciousness. Uranus is the first of the planets just beyond our physical senses and therefore lures us into the unknown. Uranus wants to wake us up to a bigger reality. As the higher octave of Mercury, Uranus triggers our curiosity and poses some big questions, all designed to expand our consciousness.
What a way to start the year! And Jupiter, having just moved into Pisces, is there to expand our imagination. From now until May 10th we are being invited to dream a brighter future, because Jupiter moves on into Aries on that day to begin a whole new 12-year journey through the Zodiac. For many reasons which I will share in later posts, next Spring has great potential for rebirth. We just need to be clear about the world we intend to birth.
So over the winter months, take time to sit quietly by a fire, curl up under a blanket and allow imagination free rein. What world do you want to live in? In the next few months much more will be revealed about the corruption in our system. The past five or six years have been about seeing reality for what it is, taking off the blinders and, in Virgo fashion, spotting what isn’t right about the way we live together and delegate power. Pretty much every established system is flawed and needs improvement.
Don’t let skepticism limit your imagination because truly there is no limit to what is possible. 2022 is the year we tip the scales, and while there will still be conflict and disparity – it is an election year, after all – we the people take back our sovereignty and become the agents, rather than victims of our society.
The New Moon in Capricorn
The first New Moon of 2022 falls on 12-13 degrees of Capricorn in the First House of the USA chart. The First House is about our self-image, our identity and the collective face we show the world. This New Moon is opposite our nation’s natal Sun at 13 Cancer. Cancer is about nourishing and nurturing. It’s the welcoming and protective arms of the Mother. We used to open our arms and welcome immigrants who sought freedom and the promise of a better life. We were a beacon of hope to the rest of the world. The shadow side of Cancer, however, is fear and insecurity and we have fallen from nurturing mother to frightened children. As we approach Pluto’s return to its natal position, it’s important to take a look at our national identity and reclaim our virtues.
Pluto has been churning up the ground of authority during its pass through Capricorn and is currently in the Second House of Values. In recent decades we have witnessed so much abuse of power, disparity in justice and economic security, inadequacy in our health care, neglect of responsibility to maintain a healthy environment for our children, and the decline of quality education. We are mired in an economic paradigm that has led us to this crisis and if we want to survive, let alone thrive, we need to rescue our nation from authoritarian rule and exercise the duties of responsible citizenship in service to our endangered democracy.
So while we are dreaming a better future, we can ask ourselves what do we truly value? What is most precious? What is more important – getting rich and famous, or living a magical life in love, peace and justice for all? Which of the Founding Fathers’ values are worth preserving?
Every sign in the Zodiac carries multiple dimensions of meaning. On a basic level Capricorn is about authority, delegation of power and creation of civilization. As we grow and evolve Capricorn energy supports maturity which comes from taking full responsibility for our lives and the impact we have on others. Capricorn is about integration, and thus integrity, as we learn to accept the full spectrum of being human and choose to express its finest qualities. In the Second House it is an exploration of value – what do we value, how do we value ourselves and others, and finally how do we integrate those values into our behavior? When we embody the values we profess, we become masters of ourselves, as well as our “Fate.” We arrive at Spiritual Adulthood.
Every calendar year begins in Capricorn. This year however, includes the electricity of Uranus. The New Moon is still within 2 degrees of trine to Uranus which is transiting the USA 5th House, encouraging original thinking and creative self-expression. Uranus works to loosen our grip on the past so we may continue to evolve. As a co-ruler of Aquarius, it inspires innovation in science and technology, so we may learn of exciting new inventions that address our current crises.
Venus made her second exact conjunction with Pluto on Christmas Day. She is still retrograde and headed back toward the Sun to begin a new cycle on January 8th. At 18-19 degrees of Capricorn, Venus will form a new star point opening the space to mature our hearts beyond self-interest into compassion for others. For the first few months of 2022, Venus will be moving in and out of a sextile to Neptune, her higher octave of expression. The two planets bring a gentle influence to the austerity of Capricorn,
We are facing multiple crises that spell future disaster for our planet. If disaster has taught us anything it is that we must pull together. We cannot do it alone, not as individuals, or states, or nations. We are globally interdependent and we must think globally.
As a lovely addendum to the Venus/Pluto conjunction, White Moon Selena lies right in between them. Selena shines her light on the path forward. Clearly it is time to exercise the prime directive of the Piscean Age and let love lead the way. Learning to love and accept ourselves is the first step, a tremendous challenge burdened as we are by negative conditioning, crippling beliefs and the unfinished business of our past. If we can just accomplish this task in the next 19 months, it will be a great victory and loving others will be an easy next step. Self-love leads to the recognition of our unity and interdependence with others. We feel the poignancy of what it means to be human. This stirs our compassion for all others who share this daunting challenge.
Mercury on the New Moon is at 00 degrees of Aquarius, the degree of the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction on the December Solstice in 2020 which marked our passage into the Age of Aquarius. Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions launch a new 20-year phase of social change. Mercury is picking up Aquarian energy, giving us an opportunity to think about what an ideal Aquarian society would look like, one in which we honor and respect one another for starters.
I am continually amazed at astrological synchronicity. Venus and Pluto are laying the foundation for new love to be born. Uranus is pushing for change. Jupiter is in Pisces, liberated from Saturnian restrictions, free to dream with hope and wonder. Neptune is opposing its natal position opening a portal for spiritual awakening. And Mercury just happens to land on the degree of our future age. It’s a glorious picture of opportunity.
Mars is another interesting player. Just two degree over the Ascendant into the First House. At 14 Sagittarius it is conjunct what is called the Great Attractor. This cosmic object is a mystery. On the one hand it seems to be moving away from us, but on the other toward us. It is like a black hole, but it has no event horizon. It devours galaxies at an alarming speed and our galaxy will eventually be one of them. Maybe it’s a cosmic recycling machine.
What I know about attractors is that these invisible objects draw us toward them. On a spiritual/metaphysical level, attractors work with our will to draw us to the future we desire. Perhaps you recall a few posts ago I mentioned that the healthy relationship between Mars and Venus involves Mars getting Venus what she wants. So our inner Venus needs to assess her values and decide what her heart desires so inner Mars can make it happen. With Mars on the degree of the Great Attractor, the cosmos is helping us manifest our dreams. And that’s where Jupiter and Neptune come in. If we align with these energies, we can make miracles.
We are what we value. As we Americans assess what we value, (2nd House) and begin to live within the framework of those values, we form a new identity (1st House). We have so much potential as individuals, as a society, a nation or a humanity. The coming millennia can be about discovering our wondrous abilities and using them to unite and heal our fractured humanity.
Finally the Nodes are moving into their last degree of the Gemini/Sagittarius axis on the threshold of Taurus/ Scorpio which they cross on the 19th. This will be a huge shift from Air/Fire to Earth/Water. All the mental gymnastics we have done to make sense of our reality, will now get grounded. For 18 months Taurus will bring the focus to our bodies, our safety, our health. We will want to slow down and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. With Chiron in the 4th House in Aries, we will uncover old wounds and develop new ways to heal. We are building new selves – whole, awake and aware, compassionate and wise. This will be our work until the North Node enters Aries and we set about building our new world.
For now, however, the North Node is in the first degree of Gemini, the South Node at 1 degree of Sagittarius. Good time to review the last 18 months. What have we learned from all the input? What beliefs have evolved or fallen away? What needs to change, not just for individuals, but our society?
Much to think about and integrate this month. The first New Moon of the year sets the tone for at least the next 6 months. Below is a calendar of key moments up to the Full Moon on January 17.
1/1 Sun trine Uranus – impetus to change
1/2 New Moon in Capricorn
1/3 Jupiter square Nodal Axis – increased focus on thoughts and beliefs. Jupiter brings optimism and faith.
1/8 Sun conjunct retrograde Venus – new Venus cycle begins
1/14 Mercury SR – turns retrograde. Time to reflect
1/14 Ceres SD (Stationary-Direct) – goes direct at the end of Taurus – about to meet the North Node – the future of our planet and food supply are on the line.
1/16 Sun conjunct Pluto – intensity
1/17 Full Moon in late Cancer – illuminates our collective identity
1/18 Uranus SD – change will pick up speed
I am wishing all of you a magical New Year. Thank you for subscribing. I hope my newsletter has been helpful and continues to be. In coming months I will be sharing what I am learning about field theory and dwarf planets, my current courses of study. Dwarf planets open our consciousness to the realm of new faculties now available to assist our evolution.
Take advantage of the next two weeks to get your inner house in order and set your intentions. They are the seeds of the future you wish to unfold.
[…] There is so much more in this chart that we could investigate, but I vowed to keep this short, for your sake as well as mine. Time seems to speed up ironically just when the Earth stands still.
