Last month we focused on the entry of Pluto into Aquarius. We have crossed the threshold into the Age of Aquarius, the sign of Humanity, which asks us to work out the paradox of our individuality and our oneness as a species. As I mentioned last time, the shift from Capricorn to Aquarius involves a shift from the duality of good and evil, to the duality of separation and Oneness.
So far this has only been an idea, slowly filtering into our consciousness, but still etheric, ineffable and out of reach. This month however, all our personal planets are lining up to be initiated by Pluto into the Aquarian Age. On February 5th, Mercury joined Pluto in the middle of the first degree, activating our minds with the Aquarian spirit.
Perhaps you noticed – a sudden flooding of insight, a new idea popping up, an old pattern emerging, ready to be released. Mercury and Pluto began a new cycle that runs until the end of January 2025 – a year of opening our minds to the revolutionary and creative power of Aquarius.
Don’t worry if you didn’t feel it, but stay alert and pay attention to what is emerging now. Don’t be alarmed at whatever comes up. Welcome it, no matter how painful, shameful, guilty, or angry it makes you feel. Pluto is helping us clear the way for dramatic transformation. When a humiliating memory or a wave of sadness overwhelms your thoughts, reach into your gratitude with the knowledge that you are about to be set free. Don’t stuff it back down. Don’t avoid it. Find a private place to process it. Remember and release. Let it go and bless it for what it taught you about yourself as a human being. Sob your way to freedom, because joy is just around the corner.
January was a tough month for me because not only did painful, emotional moments from the past pop up when least expected, but my body was in constant pain. I was feeling sorry for myself, hunkering down in my victimhood, but when Mercury and Pluto got together, they sent me a message – that the pain in my body was a lifetime of accumulated psychic pain, seeking liberation. The minute I shifted my thoughts about it, the pain began to subside. And then new ideas pierced the fog of my brain. I can’t wait to share them with you, but I warn you, they are revolutionary.
Here’s one example. I have been wondering for a long time what Being will emerge when humanity actually achieves Oneness. Are we, all together, creating a new Being? Evolution proceeds through aggregation and integration, from simple single cell organisms to complex creatures with organs and whole systems that function in concert to sustain life. I think of the trillions of microbes that came together to form the complexity of the human body, each cell, alive and conscious, operating within a community, complete with an instant communication system. It’s quite miraculous. What would we create if we cooperated in this manner?
As Mercury approached Pluto I began to get flashes of insight. I saw that collective human consciousness was not enough to create a new Being. We need to become One with the consciousness of Gaia, our beloved Earth, to form a planetary consciousness in which every part is connected and communicating with every other part – a Oneness of Mind. You Star Trek fans might think of the Borg, but the consciousness I glimpsed had nothing to do with mind control. In fact that is what we’re living in now. Our behavior is dictated by our paradigm of scarcity, hierarchy and competition, ultimately arising out of our fear. What would Humanity look like merged in love and mutual respect? I’m excited to follow this thread into the Unknown.
Mercury is racing through Aquarius headed for its superior conjunction with the Sun on February 28th, marking the half-way point in its synodic cycle that began last December 22nd. We’ll examine that next time, but I offer this information because there is the potential to expand our minds exponentially. On February 5th Pluto planted seeds in our consciousness that will grow into a whole new perception of reality. As this lunar cycle waxes, these seeds push their way up out of the soil of the subconscious, and when Mercury joins the Sun, we can expect a full bloom!
Venus and Mars
Also this month both Venus and Mars will connect with Pluto and begin new cycles. Mars is conjunct Pluto on February 13th, Venus on the 17th and then, on February 21st, Venus and Mars come together, completing a cycle that began on March 5th, 2022. This conjunction initiates a new cycle of relationship between our Masculine and Feminine energies. This is quite profound and transformative, if we will allow. it
The new cycle of Venus and Mars will have a new flavor and carry the weight of Fate because of Pluto. The Aquarian energy is about equality. Women had to claim their Mars, take initiative, assert themselves. Men, on the other hand, had to learn to slow down and get back in touch with their hearts. We can thank the pandemic for a time out when men could remember their families and the simple pleasures of life. They got a break from “doing” and got to BE.
This shift wasn’t celebrated in the News, but I have observed the shift locally and nationally through musicians, artists, even sports celebrities. Have you noticed, if you watch football, that the helmets have the word “Love” on the back of their helmets. It’s a bit ironic, but it’s also beautiful. Every time they pick up their helmets to enter battle, they look at the word Love. And let’s face it, who would have ever guessed that the number one story of the Super Bowl would be a love affair?
The Venus/Mars conjunction offers an opportunity to balance our own energy field. Are we constantly rushing, doing, planning, executing? How often do we sit and maybe watch the rain, or the sky? Do we take time to get outside and take our bodies for a walk? Do we make time for love? The modern world is addicted to Doing. We make lists of things to do and scurry like ants to complete tasks. What if we started taking more time for Being? This is where the nourishment is found. The mind may be satisfied, temporarily, with a sense of accomplishment, but the soul is bereft.
Spirit is running high right now, but we mustn’t neglect Soul. Our souls have taken a beating over the last few years – it’s been traumatic. They need nurturing. What does the Soul love? Silence, peace, metaphoric language, like poetry, symbolism, mystery, deep emotional connection. It longs for love, for space and time to just Be.
The Sun moves into Pisces three days before Venus and Mars conjunct. Pisces is the final sign of the Zodiac. It represents the end of a cycle of growth, a return to Source, a harvesting of lessons in preparation for rebirth, a letting go – surrendering to the flow of life through change after change. And of course, Pisces represents our spiritual Oneness with All That Is. Venus and Mars, however, will reunite in Aquarius.
New Moon Square Uranus
I have given you an overview of this month because the Pluto activations to our personal planets are a marker on our path to Awakening. They give us time to resonate with this new energy, to open our minds and hearts, to let go of what stands in the way, to bring our lives back into balance between Being and Doing and to nurture our souls. Yum!
The New Moon takes place on Friday, February 9th at 2:59 pm Pacific at 21 degrees of Aquarius. And that squares Uranus within 1 degree of exact. Uranus is one of the co-rulers of Aquarius. The other is Saturn. You can see how these two planets mirror our condition right now. Aquarius is a transition between worlds. Saturn is tied up with tradition, structure, institutions. Uranus looks to the future – what’s out there in that great unknown? What can we create, discover and share for the benefit of all Humanity?
The themes are freedom, liberation, equality, social wellbeing, rebellion and reform, quality of life, connectedness, and diversity. Uranus brings about revolutions – change is in the air. More than ever it’s important for us to hold that humanitarian spirit. We can watch ourselves to see how we create separation – do we withdraw, change the subject, avoid intimacy, defend, avoid social gatherings?
We all need to find our Aquarian family, those with whom we share values, vision and interests. We need to learn how to support one another, to get involved in community in whatever way works for us. We need others to grow our compassion, to create change that benefits the group, and begin to experience a sense of oneness. Our transition and transformation as a society will take time, a lot of time. Some of us are ready. Most are not. But ultimately we will move on to a kinder way of life.
If you remember in my first newsletter of the year, I mentioned that Jupiter will conjunct Uranus on April 20th. Whenever outer planets begin a new cycle, which occurs when they reach the same degree at the same time, they begin a new cycle for the whole world. Jupiter and Uranus have produced some amazing change throughout history. We’ll take a look at that in April. The point is that Jupiter and Uranus carry intense and almost unlimited energy. We can prepare for that by raising our frequency now.
So here’s a reminder of some ways to do that. You can’t go wrong by breathing through your heart consciously, opening up space and filling it with gratitude. This will bring the head into coherence with the heart. Gratitude always raises frequency. If this feels difficult right now, start a gratitude journal. Make a list until you have 100 things you are grateful for. Momentum will build as you add to the list, perspective will shift along with attitude and frequency.
Cultivate the Divine Feminine. Evoke spiritual qualities like beauty, compassion, wonder, even awe. Connect with Nature. If you can’t get out, bring it into the home – plants, flowers, stones, leaves. Acknowledge the elements – breathe fresh air, celebrate water, spend 15 minutes sitting or walking in sunlight.
Earth energy is always available to us. All we need do is ask inside for the Earth consciousness to come up into our bodies and our energy fields. Then feel, not think. Feel the gentle caress of Earth energy as it grounds the body and surrounds it with support and love. We can discover that the Earth loves us as much as we love her.
Uranus has been hanging out on our natal Vesta as it stationed direct on January 26th. It will continue energizing Vesta through the middle of March. Vesta holds the spark of divinity that connects us with all that is sacred. Uranus is awakening us to our spiritual origins, helping us remember who we really are.
North Node conjunct Chiron
On February 19th, the retrograde North Node conjuncts transiting Chiron and begins the year-long focus on the USA Chiron return. During this time our national wounds, as well as our personal ones, will surface, demanding attention. Specters from the subconscious are being released, not to torment us, but to clear the path to the future. We will go into this more deeply in a future newsletter, but Chiron isn’t just about healing psychic wounds. In fact, Chiron was a mentor to the heroes of Greek mythology. In modern times he offers us an opportunity to develop a relationship with our inner mentor. He teaches us how to live with our wounds, how to address our grief and develop the grace to carry grief in one hand and gratitude in the other. Chiron is a spiritual mentor drawing forth the hero in all of us.
The New Moon is activating the USA natal Chariklo, the wife, or consort of Chiron. Chariklo is not only his helpmate, but an archetype of the Divine Feminine. If you recall, this centaur was conjunct both Pluto and Saturn when they came together in January of 2020 to blow up our reality. She has been holding a healing field throughout our rough passage, sustaining us with her compassion.
One final note on the New Moon. It coincides with the start of a New Year in the Chinese calendar. This is a Dragon year, the Wood Dragon to be specific. While I don’t follow the Chinese calendar, I have read that the themes are evolution, improvement and abundance. How fitting!
Enjoy the next two weeks and be aware of what comes into your mind, your heart, your life. We’ll all have a lot to process and integrate at the Virgo Full Moon. Below is a calendar of events for the month in case you want to take advantage of timing. A small ritual of receiving would be appropriate to acknowledge Pluto’s gifts. If you don’t have an altar or sacred space in your home, create one. Candles, objects that hold significance, flowers, feathers, pictures, a bowl of water, crystals or stones are altar-worthy. Let the Unknown know that you are aware of its influence and grateful for its gifts of insight.
