Isn’t time strange now? Today is the Third Quarter Moon. The New Moon was three weeks ago and most of us have been confined to quarters. On the one hand, that New Moon seems ages ago. And yet, I can’t believe how fast it went. It felt slow, as the days stretched out, but as I look back upon the path, it seems like a long tunnel. I can see moments that triggered change, forcing me to find a new way to respond to circumstances.
This passage may have been agonizing for some of you, and my heart goes out to you. So much death and grief, illness and fear. We all feel it, even if it only touches us remotely. Those of us untouched by tragedy are getting an opportunity to exercise our compassion – the best of our humanity. This is a really difficult time. For the lucky of us, it represents disruption, inconvenience, confinement, possible boredom, along with experiences that test our patience, our ingenuity, our willingness to adapt. We really needed this time to slow down. We couldn’t think deeply, moving at top speed. Plus we needed to unclench. (Take a deep breath and relax another degree).
Change is happening and we don’t know where we’re going to end up. The truth is that we will end up where we choose. So Choice is up for all of us, big time. Fortunately we were given time to slow down and reflect. When we get bored enough, we start to go deeper and that’s the intention. We are being thrown back on ourselves. Boredom can pull us inward to discover resources we didn’t know we had, creativity we’ve ignored, feelings long forgotten, memories both tender and painful. Boredom can be a great meditation and produce a richer harvest than distraction.
What’s been happening to me is a gradual letting go. Slowly I have drifted into complete acceptance of the status quo and total faith in the future. I wasn’t even aware of this change until today. And that’s what the Third Quarter Moon is all about. It’s a time when we harvest the riches of our experience.
I had intended to write about the lunation cycle beginning with the New Moon in Aries, first sign of the Zodiac. But it didn’t feel pertinent at the time. We’ll go through it next month from the beginning, but today is the Third Quarter. At New Moon we are energized with a new quality of energy. We begin a new cycle of experience. Seeds are planted, come to fruition at the Full Moon and are ready for harvest a week later. There are ways to work with lunar energy consciously, and we’ll address that in the next cycle, but today is too important to be overlooked.
At the Third Quarter Moon we can see the month from a bigger perspective. We can look back at events that formed a theme through the entire month and see how they evolved. We can harvest the lessons with our consciousness. What was going on for you on March 24th at the New Moon? What moments over the weeks formed a pattern of growth? What issues, reactions, interactions, thoughts and feelings came to the surface? What have you learned – about yourself, about your values? Insights are awaiting.
On the Third Quarter Moon today, the Moon will be conjunct Jupiter and Pluto. It all takes place in the USA chart in our Second House where we examine assets and value. What do I value? How do I value myself, others, the planet? What value do I have? What personal talents or assets do I possess that I can contribute? Of course there is a social and political focus to Capricorn. Pallas is bringing attention to social injustice; but on the personal level Capricorn demands maturity, responsibility, integrity and mastery.
So in this earthy arena, Pluto is kindly ploughing the inner soil of your psyche, unearthing unconscious material, throwing up rocks to get your attention. He is ploughing under the past and bringing fertile soil to the surface, preparing the way for planting new seeds.
Jupiter is there encouraging growth, enlarging the photograph so you can see the often-missed details. Jupiter is asking you, “How do you underestimate yourself?” It’s time to grow, time for you to step into your true identity, into the evolutionary angel you are; time to take those forgotten talents off the shelf and polish them up.
And right in the mix is the Moon transmitting the energy and information directly into our awareness, into our bodies and minds, direct from our Soul. This day holds great potential for awakening. You may uncover some painful truths, but the experience will set you free. Allow yourself to evolve through the lessons of this Aries lunar cycle. The Sun is conjunct Eris. Mercury is conjunct Chiron – all in Aries. Capricorn is one arena in this square aspect, but Aries is the other. Capricorn – who am I in the world? Aries – who am I, in essence? Mercury can bring to mind what needs healing, what needs communicating, what unsettles the mind with painful thoughts. Sit in silence and watch your mind at work. Feel into heartache. With the Sun emphasizing Eris – look for the discord within. Are you split? Of two minds? Two wills? How balanced and harmonious is your psyche? What haunts you?
For the next week, until the New Moon in Taurus – another biggie – sit with these questions. Reap the harvest of inner wealth. And don’t forget the qualities of the Feminine energy. Venus is conjunct Vesta supporting a trip to your compassionate heart and devotion to all that is sacred.
Blessings of the Cosmos on you all . . .
