After a challenging year of chaos and alarm, September offers us an opportunity to reassemble our disrupted lives. The Moon reunites with the Sun in steadying Virgo in the first house of the USA chart. All the personal planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars plus the Sun and Moon form a Stellium – a group that creates a whole greater than the sum of its parts. And because all these planets are personal, they ask us to pause and reflect upon our personal lives.
So how are you doing? Look back over the last 8 months – what has changed? Is your house in order? Not just the house you live in, but your mind – Mercury; your emotional body – Venus and the Moon; your energy – Mars and the Sun? Are you tormented by negative thoughts? Are you fearful of the future? Are you exhausted or refreshed?
The days around a new moon are a time to gather your inner resources, a time to reflect upon your current status, to organize and clarify your intentions. I highly recommend meditation, sitting in silence and just watching what is happening in your inner world. What is asking for attention? What is confusing and needs clarity? What has been neglected or overlooked?
Watch the flow of thoughts and feelings. Are you stuck in a recycling thought pattern? Write about it in your journal. If you don’t have one, start one. Journaling is a great tool for clarity. Be on the alert for negative thoughts and emotions. It’s time to weed the inner garden. Virgo energy is perfect for this task because it is sensitive to subtleties. The great strength of Virgo is discernment. Pop astrology warns that Virgos are judgmental, and that is certainly a pitfall, but it is because Virgo is on the lookout for how to make things better. She notices every detail, spots the weaknesses and comes up with an improvement plan.
So let Virgo have her way with you. Let her help you get organized. Let her refine your consciousness. She may point out ways to improve your health, or your work, or your daily routine. She is always on the lookout for ways to be of service. To quote Mahatma Gandhi, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” This is Virgo at her finest.
Virgo is an Earth sign. We have a predominance of Earth this month. Uranus in Taurus; Mercury, Sun, Moon, Mars and Venus in Virgo; Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. The personal planets will interact with the Capricorn planets later in the month, but for the next few days all of these planets will come into the harmonious trine (120 degree) aspect with Uranus.
We talked about Uranus being the great awakener. When Uranus is square or opposite a planet it can wreak some havoc, but in a trine, it is supportive. Uranus will stimulate you, offer insights and provide the energy to make the changes that Virgo suggests.
On September 7th, this group of planets will begin to oppose Neptune in Pisces. Neptune is a very enigmatic planet that works in mysterious ways to break down boundaries and expand our consciousness. Neptune is the higher octave of Venus and therefore represents agape – unconditional love. An opposition can be a tug of war, or the opening of a channel. Let Neptune raise your vibration.
Jupiter in Sagittarius is also involved. Mercury will be square Jupiter on the 6th. Allow Jupiter to expand your mind, your heart and your self-confidence. Don’t resist its expansive energy but don’t get swept up in excess. Keep a practical head.
Chiron is working in the background to heal your wounds. One of the dangers of Virgo energy is self-criticism. Be kind to yourself. Give yourself some Neptunian space. Harsh self-deprecation never helps. It just halts your progress. Remember, we are all works in progress. Appreciate how far you have come. Be grateful and allow yourself to evolve further.
Take this opportunity to gather your inner resources and strengthen your character. It will serve you in the second half of the month when all these planets connect with Saturn and Pluto. Here is the chart of the New Moon, set for EDT.
