Sunday evening the Moon meets up with the Sun. She disappears into the light and for us, there is temporary darkness. It is a time of mystery. Something new will be born this month, something from the unknown, from the depths of the Unconscious.
Scorpio is an intriguing energy. Ruled by Pluto, it brings change and a chance for transformation. Unconscious material surfaces. Our reality takes on a new look. Maybe it looks more dangerous. Maybe more hopeful. Either way it is reflecting something about ourselves.
Scorpio is the energetic womb for the coming cycle. This energy stimulates the emotional body, awakening powerful feelings, demanding to be felt. These feelings will draw us inward. Our dreams will come alive, whispering clues to our healing. Scorpio says, “Feel. Feel it all. Feel it deeply. Let it lead you to insight.”
The overall theme of this month is transformation. Many subthemes point to the areas that need the most attention. Uranus is on the scene to wake us up, to startle and surprise us. Exactly opposite the Sun and the Moon in Scorpio, Uranus at 4 degrees of Taurus is alerting us to the needs of the Earth. Look for flashes of insight and synchronicities.
Taurus is ruled by Venus – a Goddess, of Love. In Taurus she becomes embodied. She doesn’t love in thought only, she puts her love into action. She grounds her love into her body. This is about pleasure, sensuality and sexuality. The sensual enjoyment of the body, and of life in general, slows us down, relaxes our defensive walls, temporarily shuts off the ego’s mind chatter, lets us forget about our problems.
This is not slacking off. There is no guilt here. Taking some time to truly enjoy yourself is rejuvenating and creates the space for change. In this space you feel safe enough to examine your life, see the burdens you’re ready to put down, the possibilities you’d like to explore, ask yourself some serious questions.
This Earthy emphasis is reinforced by the Jupiter conjunction with Ceres in Sagittarius. Jupiter is winding up his Sagittarian journey and, after a year’s travel, he is hooking up with the asteroid Ceres. Jupiter is shining the spotlight on Mother Earth and asking us to expand our vision.
This is particularly timely for a Scorpio Moon. Ruler Pluto is Lord of the Underworld. He abducted Persephone and made her his Queen. Her mother Ceres searched the Earth mourning for the loss of her daughter. Finally, Jupiter (Zeus) negotiated a compromise with his brother Pluto who agreed to release Persephone to the upper world for half the year. Jupiter is once again coming to Ceres’ aid.
This myth reveals the love of the Mother for her children. What is the myth that reveals the love of the children for their Mother? It has yet to be written, but it’s time to start writing it. It’s time to reconnect with our love for our home, our beloved blue planet. To feel gratitude for her abundant nurturing, not just the food that nurtures our bodies, but the beauty that enriches our souls. It’s harvest time and we’re approaching Thanksgiving. Jupiter is saying, “Remember your Mother.”
Another theme is suggested by the South Node in Capricorn revealing the state of our social institutions, erected on a troubled past. It is visiting the USA natal position of Eris, the symbol of Discord. Politically we are living a nightmare of discord. Civil War is raging in Washington, a battle between agreed-upon law and lawbreakers. Our human family is watching the parents fight and our home is anything but peaceful. We are all experiencing the trauma, no matter what side we support.
This is just one more battlefield in a 250-year history of discord. Eris is an interesting mythological figure. She has been blamed for starting the Trojan War by tossing a golden apple into an Olympian wedding ceremony. As three goddesses fought over the right to the title of “Fairest,” their ego weaknesses were revealed. For Juno it was pride. For Venus it was vanity. For Pallas Athena it was arrogance. The Trojan war was started by these three deadly sins. Eris just created the context.
The final theme for our country lies within Saturn’s transit of the USA progressed Moon in mid-Capricorn. We are susceptible right now. Our sensitive Moon has taken a beating from Pluto and Saturn all year. Saturn is there to support our taking responsibility for our psychological hang-ups, our dysfunctional behavioral patterns, our reactive emotions.
The coming month will be the most productive if we get serious about our spiritual practice and are willing to seek out the parts of ourselves that are in distress. Cosmic energy is supporting a deep dive into the subconscious. Some wound needs healing. Some rancor needs resolution. Some relationship is festering. Eris can help us identify our vulnerabilities. We just need to become more self-aware.
We are about to begin a new series of “Lessons from the Heavens.” We are going to explore spiritual practice – what does that mean? How do we do it? Why? We’ll look at meditation, body work, dreaming, journal writing, processing, ritual, spiritual principles and more.
I am also going to be writing social commentary which will include my observations on the political scene. I understand that some of you may not want to read these essays. We are preparing to give you a choice. You will receive a form listing my various blogs. Please select the ones you want to receive.
In addition, I’m offering a half-hour Chiron reading for $50, a third off the regular price. You will learn the house and sign of your natal Chiron, the other planets involved in your healing journey, and what areas to focus on. Let me help.

Thank you so much for this Diana. It gives me what I need to move forth today with courage and knowing I may have to come back and reread this for more encouragement throughout the month.
Diana Vilas
You are so welcome, K’Lea. You have the strength, courage and resilience to make the most of this Scorpio energy. These chaotic times hold so much potential. We change the world when we allow ourselves to be transformed.
