It’s time to take a good, hard look at our country. The poison at the core of our society has boiled up to the surface. Americans are rising up in protest at the senseless, brutal murder of a black man. On the one hand this has precipitated violence, vandalism, arson, looting, and confrontation with armed police; on the other white siblings are joining their black siblings and demanding that racism, and its attendant oppression, end now and justice be restored in our Democracy. These are historic times. We are living on the cusp of evolution.
So many of us are already weary. We’ve been beaten up pretty badly and it’s not over yet. First a pandemic which is still sweeping across our nation. Then a murder and potential race riots. Now a hurricane is forming in the Gulf and looks like it will hit our southern coast by Sunday night. We can only pray it will weaken, but warming waters have been creating more deadly storms. Climate Change and Racism are issues we must face. We have swept them under the bed for too long and now they are erupting. The past 19 months have been a pressure cooker. We were in the Scorpio Venus cycle, taking a deep dive into the Underworld. The corruption, the disease, the toxic poisons that we have buried in our collective unconscious are now exploding into our reality.
Our planet is sick. Our environment is choking with toxic waste. Humans are one with all of nature and the Earth. What could we expect but a pandemic? I’ve used the body metaphor frequently, but it expresses a truth here. When an organ in our body becomes diseased, the whole body sick. We can’t just ignore it or it will consume us.
Racism has poisoned our collective soul since our birth 250 years or so ago. Pluto is closing in on a reunion with its birth place. America is having a Pluto Return and we are within its orb now. The choices we make during this passage through the Underworld of our Collective Consciousness will determine the future we create.
Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius
Things are heating up and now we have our first of three eclipses. Today the Moon in Sagittarius opposes the Sun in Gemini at 15 degrees, exactly square Mars. This is known as a T Square and it is significant. Furthermore, just two days ago Venus started a new cycle, one that is meant to heal our hearts over the next 19 months. The Moon’s Nodes are newly in Gemini and Sagittarius, the same axis as this Full Moon, approaching an exact conjunction with the Galactic Center in July! Something big is afoot.
Astrologers have differing opinions about the significance of an eclipse, but all concur that eclipses increase intensity. Some say it’s time to look at our shadow and I agree. How could we miss the many dark sides of our collective shadow as we see Americans bludgeoning their countrymen before our very eyes?
Generally it is believed that Solar eclipses are more significant and we have a powerful one coming up on the Summer Solstice at Zero degrees of Cancer. But this season kicks off with the Moon which, in the USA chart, is on the Ascendant. Our very identity is being eclipsed giving us time to reflect on who we have become. With the Moon in Sagittarius, we begin to consider who we want to be. The Sun meanwhile is conjunct Venus on the USA descendant. The next 19 months are about healing our hearts and our relationships with one other, about learning to come from the heart instead of a head filled with conditioned ideas and beliefs.
Activating this Full Moon is Mars in Pisces conjunct Neptune. A square is a challenge that is meant to wake us up. Neptune is the planet of our Oneness, our Spiritual identity which is infinite and loving. He is the higher octave of Venus – Divine Love. Mars is our will. How do we exercise our will during these times? Where do we direct our energy? Do we use our rage as a weapon? Do we blame and rev up our hate or do we have the courage to face the horror with open hearts and wake up to the truth of our Oneness? Will we bring forth our better natures, our spiritual potential?
This is the big question facing humanity now and our answer will decide everything – whether we restore our planet’s health, whether we cooperate rather than compete, whether humanity evolves into greater glory or withers on a poisoned vine.
Today’s Full Moon is a penumbral eclipse, invisible in the USA because it takes place around noon Pacific Time. The alignment isn’t perfect so the Earth casts a slight shadow. The Moon will be visible the whole time, but not as bright. It feels to me like a gentle introduction to a rite of passage. The Sun is signaling a need to examine our beliefs. Sun conjunct Venus in Gemini is asking us to look at both sides of an issue, observe the two sides of our nature and bring them into harmony, align our heads and hearts and seek inner peace. Moon in Sagittarius encourages self-reflection and a quest for truth. Mars and Neptune support our spiritual evolution.
Look for the kernels of change. They are everywhere. Policemen who lay down their arms and join the march for justice. Doctors and nurses working themselves ragged to save our lives. Governors who bring forth compassion, caring, gentle leadership – the beautiful qualities of the Feminine. Look for signs of loving and healing. The more you look, the more you will find. This is our chance to redeem ourselves and make things right.
Shannon Gill, a fellow astrologer, says, “During eclipse season, when ‘the lights are out’ so to speak, our normal MO of functioning is destabilized, as the ego and emotional body experience a bit of a time warp. Higher forces ‘take over’ in order to catalyze huge change and redirection in our lives.”
Higher forces are definitely at play. Fittingly the next New Moon will be at the threshold of Cancer, the Great Mother. An evolved humanity is gestating in her womb.
