As colorful leaves begin to shrivel and crunch beneath our boots, the air becomes brisk, the light fades and the Sun moves into Scorpio. We are headed for All Hallows Eve traditionally a time of cleansing and purification before the Day of All Saints, a celebration of the highest potential to which humans can aspire – Sainthood.
Before Sainthood, though, come trials, usually equal to a descent into Hell. That is what Halloween became, a day when sinners confessed their sins and got a clean slate before All Saints Day. Sin carries an identity burden. Originally the word meant going astray, off the path, a navigational error. It didn’t become a barricade to the pearly gates until it was enthroned by the church. Long before Christianity, however, the Celts celebrated October 31st as Samhain, midpoint between the Autumnal Equinox and the Winter Solstice.
Nowadays Halloween is mostly for children who get to disguise themselves and collect loot. Some adults still celebrate, carving pumpkins and sharing a meal of harvest foods. Nevertheless, Halloween marks the halfway point of Fall in our calendar, when the northern hemisphere falls into darkness, leaves fall to the ground, and we are drawn indoors. The natural rhythm of life draws us within and the energies of Scorpio beckon from our depths.
Scorpio carries the energy of longing, not just desire, but deep, spiritual longing. Scorpio is the second water sign, between Cancer and Pisces. It is the transition from personal feelings to transpersonal ones. Scorpio wants to connect with God, or Source, or whatever name we use for our collective spiritual home. Most of us are not aware of the true source of our longing. We try to satisfy it with material things, with sex, food, drugs, power; but this desire can never be satisfied by things. Scorpio longs for inner fulfillment, for nothing less than Oneness.
Scorpio has two rulers – Mars and Pluto. Mars wants action. Pluto wants transformation. He is Lord of the Underworld. Like the fires of Hell, Pluto wants to burn away all the obstacles between you and your spiritual source. He wants to clear the path to healing. While the Sun travels through Scorpio, take advantage of its power. Allow its energy to lure you into your own depths and find that healing and wholeness you long for.
The coming month is the perfect time for self-reflection. Next week we’ll begin to explore spiritual practice with a look at processing. This is the key to spiritual healing and in a natal chart Chiron is the key to higher consciousness. I thought you might benefit from learning about where Chiron lies in your chart and what it has to say about the wounds you can heal in this lifetime. It’s a bridge to self-realization.
During the month of Scorpio, I’m offering half-hour Chiron readings for $50. I plan to put this offer on the Facebook Page on October 27th, the New Moon in Scorpio, but I wanted to offer it to you subscribers first and to thank you for reading my posts. Michelle will post this offer on my website by tomorrow.
Halloween is special this year. Mercury turns retrograde for the remaining Scorpio month, until the Sun enters Sagittarius on November 21st. Retrograde Mercury is a great ally for processing on an inward journey. I’m excited about sharing it with you.
I also want to let you know that I post with regularity on the Facebook page Lessons from the Heavens. I do updates about what’s happening astrologically for the day along with other interesting tidbits I pick up. If you haven’t done so already, visit the site and like us. Please feel free to leave a comment. It’s hard to get conversations going.
I’m considering creating a private group on Facebook for those who want to share their transformation process, seek input or support others on their evolutionary journey. I’ll be offering astrological insights to this group. I hope you’ll consider joining when the invitation comes out.
