All the seeds of intention, planted in inner darkness at the New Moon are ready for harvest. Wednesday, December 11th, is the Full Moon in Gemini, the Twins, reflecting back to us our dual nature.
All of manifested reality is split in two – light and dark, male and female, pleasure and pain. We live in a world of opposites. For thousands of years we have perceived duality as contradiction. You can have one or the other, but not both. By its very nature, dualism set the stage for conflict. Darwin’s theory of evolution informed us that life is a struggle for survival and only the fittest survive. Competition became a way of life. We compete for wages, for grades, for athletic prowess. This is how we relate to one another.
We have reached a stage in our evolution where we must learn to relate to one another in a new way, because if we don’t, we will keep on killing each other, preying upon each other and destroying our planet. We’re on a suicidal mission right now. Time to rethink everything. Full Moon in Gemini is the perfect time to begin.
The Gemini Twins reveal the truth that duality is encompassed in a greater Oneness. It’s a good time to reflect on our own dual nature and begin the process of integration, time to bring in more of the feminine qualities – receptivity, compassion, intuition, inclusion. Or if needed, more of the masculine – will, intention, incentive.
On Wednesday the Sagittarian Sun is conjunct Pallas Athena close to the USA Ascendant asking us to reflect on who we are. What is our national identity? Sagittarius opens the doors of higher perception and invites us to see a bigger picture. At the moment she is collaborating with Pallas to grow our wisdom and courage and activate the spiritual warrior within.
From now through Christmas Jupiter will square Uranus. These two gas giants will work together to stimulate growth and change. Uranus will gift us with surprises – a sudden insight, a chance meeting, a creative impulse. Uranus wants to wake us up. Pay attention or the alarm will get louder.
Venus, the Queen of the Heavens, is nestled between Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. She is forging a connection between the Lord of Karma (Saturn) and the Lord of Darkness (Pluto). She is showing us that love is the answer; that we can navigate the coming challenges with an open heart. How perfect as we celebrate the return of the Light at the Solstice and the birth of Love at Christmas!
On the Full Moon, Mars in Scorpio will be exactly square Neptune in Pisces, both planets in their domains, radiating powerful energy and reminding us that our true spiritual oneness lies within. To reach that place of peace, we must journey into inner darkness and make more room for the light.
The real challenge will be transforming discord. The South Node of the Moon is exactly conjunct Eris, the planet charged with causing discord. The myth of Eris reveals a lot about our baser nature. The story is that the gods were having a wedding party and decided not to invite Eris because she made things unpleasant. Eris got wind of the affair and showed up anyway. At the height of the festivities, she tossed a golden apple into the crowd with a note attached: “For the fairest.”
Juno snatched up the apple and declared that she was the Queen of Olympus and therefore the fairest. Venus contested the claim asserting that she was the most beautiful. Pallas objected and declared that she had sprung from the head of Zeus. She was the warrior goddess of wisdom. The three asked Zeus to settle the matter, but Zeus knew better. He called upon a shepherd boy named Paris to choose the fairest among the goddesses.
Immediately Paris was surrounded. Pallas offered him the wisdom of the ages if he chose her. Juno offered him power and position on Olympus. Venus promised to give him the most beautiful woman on Earth. What would a young man choose? The woman, of course, so Venus helped Paris abduct Helen, wife of Menelaus, and take her home to Troy. That was the beginning of the Trojan War.
The point of the story is that when something is dangled before us, our baser instincts can be ignited. For Juno it was her pride. Venus gave in to her vanity while Pallas chose to exhibit her arrogance. Eris was the instigator, but the war was caused by everyone giving in to their basest instinct, their ego-trip.
The holidays are full of cheer and challenges. Traffic, weather, shopping, preparations, lines, family gatherings. So easy to slip into unconscious behavior patterns and attitudes. Practice your future Christmases this year. Perhaps less stress and more fun, fewer hurt feelings and more connection with loved ones. Raise the bar on relationships. Express your best.
Blessedly Chiron is at the bottom of the USA chart, strengthening our roots, healing the cracks in our foundation and in our hearts. The Moon is about receiving. Open to the abundant blessings of this Full Moon, embrace them with gratitude and let them help you raise the bar.
Like you I’m busy in holiday preparations. My girls are coming home for Christmas and we are overjoyed. I will send out one more post this month. There is a solar eclipse on Christmas Day. The new year will be full of import. We’ll jump back in right after the holidays and stare down that ominous Saturn/Pluto conjunction.
