This Friday, January 24, the Moon will conjoin the Sun to begin another lunar cycle. New Moons are about planting seeds – new ideas, new plans, wishes and dreams – that can bloom at the Full Moon. For three days the Moon is invisible. It’s a perfect time for meditation, a time to connect with our feelings, reflect on our intentions and fortify our will. What do we want to transpire in the months to come?
We must think big during this cycle – bigger than our personal lives. With Aquarian energy flowing through us for the next month, we are prompted to think about humanity. We are in a lot of trouble right now. Our climate is reaching the point of no return. War is warming up backstage. Totalitarianism is on the rise. Centuries of battle to achieve freedom, to create democracy, to improve living conditions in communities, nations and undeveloped countries around the world are in jeopardy. The efforts of our ancestors, the sacrifices and suffering, the hard work and determination, the lives lost in the name of freedom, will have been for naught.
We have battled disease, starvation, infant mortality, ignorance and illiteracy. We have built hospitals, schools, concert halls, theaters, museums – all crowning achievements of humanity. We can be proud of how far we have come. But this is not the best we can do. We can do so much more. We can address the issues we have yet to resolve. It’s time to improve the way we live with one another. It’s time for humanity to take the next step – into Spiritual Adulthood.
We have been squabbling for millennia. That’s what happens when we only think about ourselves – our personal lives, our community or tribe, our nation. This is parochial thinking. Evolution wants us to move on. This is the pressure we are feeling now – the evolutionary force pushing through us. As it wells up from within, it plays out in our world, projecting the consequences of our thinking.
As I write, two factions are battling on the Senate floor. What happens in the next few weeks will set a course for our future. Aquarius asks us to consider carefully. It asks us to assess the company we keep, the groups we belong to, the affiliations we have formed. Are they aligned with our values? Do they support our growth and evolution? Do they have a humanitarian agenda?
Aquarius encourages our coming together with like-minded people dedicated to co-creating a future in which the whole of humanity prospers. In what seems like a paradox, Aquarius also celebrates individuality, difference, diversity. Think of the intricacy of nature, how biodiversity creates strength within an ecosystem, each species contributing to the health of the whole. Oneness doesn’t mean we become one amorphous mass, all thinking and looking alike, but rather a thriving population of unique, creative individuals who work together to find solutions to our world’s greatest problems. Aquarius supports participation and cooperation, and values the unique contribution of every individual.
At the beginning of the year I heard an astrologer say, “The best investment you can make this year is in friendship.” That’s the Aquarian spirit! We are heading into new territory. Beginning this December, exactly on the Winter Solstice, just to magnify its significance, Jupiter and Saturn will initiate a new 20-year social cycle on the first degree of Aquarius. For the last 200 years these conjunctions have occurred in Earth signs – Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. We have been immersed in the material world, focused on resources, commerce, creating wealth.
For the next 200 years the conjunctions will be in Air signs. The energy lightens up and focuses in the mental realm – Gemini; the relational realm – Libra; and the Archetypal realm – Aquarius. We are all part of a great experiment. We are individual humans creating the Archetype of Humanity! We’re a work in progress and we’re about to take the next turn on destiny’s wheel and become aware of our humanity, our commonality, our union. Humanity will wake up to itself. No longer “I think, therefore I am.” It will become, “We share Consciousness, therefore we Are.”
What’s so special about this new moon cycle is that it opens an energetic portal to the future. This is the Realm of the Strange Attractor – the Divine Archetype that activates the engine of evolution. (More on that in my next message.) Now, however, I want to focus on the potential for this month. All air signs channel information. Be on the lookout for new ideas – they may just be whispers from the Strange Attractor – glimpses of our future identity, our healed world, a world at peace, a world of loving and caring. How do we stop war? We seek out Peace. That is one of the qualities of Libra that we will cultivate in the next two centuries.
Right now we are being activated. Our consciousness has been so deeply embedded in the Earthly realm that it will take a while to integrate this lighter energy. On this New Moon we can begin to sense it and the excitement of its potential. So open up to the unknown. Let Aquarius breezes billow the curtains of your mind.
Can you sense the shift from the driven masculine energy, focused on mastery over matter, to a gentler time when we awaken to the knowledge of who we really are and begin to live together in peace? A time when we restore our beloved Mother Earth to her original glory. During the centuries ahead we will be re-integrating the Feminine energy, the beauty, love and magic of the Feminine Divine. This energy will temper our aggression, slow down our “doing” and enhance our “being.” We will use more of our brains, develop intuition and other awareness that we now call psychic.
Does that seem like an impossible dream? Don’t let skepticism keep you from dreaming big. The energy of skepticism and cynicism operates at a low frequency. It is dense and weighs down potential. Raising our resonance is critical at this time.
I have told this story before, but there are so many new subscribers that I will risk repeating myself. Years ago I had a riding instructor who taught me a life lesson. I was galloping a horse over a cross-country course. There was a particularly enormous tree trunk ahead of me and we were racing uphill toward it. As we approached I signaled with my legs for a jump, but to my shock the horse planted all four feet and I flew over his head right into this tree. Once I regained my breath, I remounted and finished the course, shaken and feeling a bit sorry for myself.
As I entered the ring, Deb met me, hands on hips. I was expecting sympathy but instead she screamed at me. “YOU WERE LOOKING AT THE FENCE!” All I could think was “duh.” But then she explained that I would always land where I was looking. Horses feel our focus and intention. When I stared down at that tree trunk, my horse sensed a dead end. If I had been looking on the other side of that tree, we would have cleared the obstacle.
This experience taught me to always focus on where I want to land, not on the obstacle. So where do we want to land once 2020 is over? There are a lot of obstacles ahead. We need to be aware of them but not magnify them with our fear. We can’t let them become permanent barriers. If we keep our focus on the vision we hold, and fill our hearts with love, not fear, we will be carried on evolution’s flow and land safely in the world of our dreams.
