It’s Harvest Moon time. The Sun is completing her journey through Virgo and on September 20th brings this cycle to its climax with the Full Moon at 28+ degrees of Pisces. This is a powerful placement, at the end of the final sign of the Zodiac. In Pisces things reach completion. All the painful burdens we have carried for so long, can be set down and left behind. Do we really want to carry them any further?
It is a myth that life has to be pain and suffering. We broke no sacred taboo in the “Garden of Eden.” We simply evolved, as we were meant to do. We misunderstood our condition and made the mistake of adopting the will of a punishing god, as interpreted by men seeking authority. The Divine is so much greater than our mythology.
We’re evolving again and this time we will see ourselves anew. As we awaken to the reality that all is Divine, we realize that we are, too. We don’t need all those defenses, all those judgments, all the righteousness of the chosen. We’re all chosen. We’re all cherished. And with this Full Moon in Pisces, if we slow down, let ourselves be gentle and receptive, we can experience ourselves that way.
Pisces broadcasts on the highest frequencies of love, compassion and faith. Over the next three days we can focus on receiving: allowing ourselves to be loved, believing in our goodness, willing to drop our story and step into our true identity.
Full Moon in Pisces
The Sun is approaching America’s midheaven from the 9th House. It lies between Hygeia in Virgo and Mars in Libra. Hygeia, symbol of health care, is conjunct the USA natal Neptune. This is an important moment in the spiritual life of America. 9th House is the realm of philosophy. This is where we formulate our view of the world. Just how healthy is our outlook on life? Do we trust it? Do we believe in the benevolence of the Universe and the innate goodness of humanity?
Opposite the Sun, the Moon is in Pisces in the third house. To further emphasize the spiritual focus of this Full Moon, she is within 7 degrees of transiting Neptune, opposite the USA Neptune. The spiritual health of our nation lies in our Oneness. The message couldn’t be more clear.
The Moon is a receptive body. She symbolizes the mutability of our inner world – our ups and downs, waxings and wanings. As she moves through a sign in 2-1/2 days and through the entire Zodiac each month, we experience the full spectrum of energies. Our moods change as we shift signs. We perceive the world through 12 different lenses. The Moon touches us through our emotional body and speaks to us through our feminine receptors. In Pisces she is most receptive and wide open, and conjunct Neptune, dissolver of boundaries, there is no limit to what we can receive over the next few days. In the USA 3rd House, we have something to learn, something that will shift our perception of the world.
Pisces is associated with psychic abilities. ESP and precognition are not fantastical powers. They are the natural state of divine consciousness and we can tap into them simply by connecting to the All deep within. For all us spiritual seekers, it’s here for the taking. We can cultivate our psychic connection to all that is sacred including one another. This is a beautiful spiritual practice and will truly make a difference.
Neptune reigns in Pisces, blurring boundaries, tugging at our soul’s depth to awaken our longing for the Divine. Neptune leads our consciousness into the realm of unconditional love and compassion. All the happiness, joy, fulfillment and belonging that we seek, is available to us right here, right now. All we need do is surrender to it, allow it to penetrate our consciousness, inform our hearts and lift us up.
While the Sun traversed Virgo, we fine-tuned our self-awareness. Now Pisces opens up the space for self-love and forgiveness. We all have the memory of something in our past that makes us shrink and recoil. My ego gleefully conjures up my most mortifying moments to shock me with shame or regret. I’m pleased to report they are on the decline as I revisit each incident and confront the truth – I was unkind, I was mean, I was punishing, I was arrogant. I weep over the missed opportunities to love, but in truth this is the way we bring love to those wounding times. We feel gratitude for our new insight and we love the one-we-were-then who taught us what we know now.
Autumnal Equinox
Two days after the Full Moon, the Sun enters Libra. The focus shifts from “self-improvement” to relationships. If I were to ask you “What is your most important relationship?” what would you say? The majority respond with spouse, parent, sibling, child, etc, but our most important relationship is with ourselves. It’s the only relationship that lasts our entire lifetime so it’s important to nurture it. Ultimately we need to learn to love ourselves, accept ourselves, forgive ourselves and take 100% responsibility for our choices. Only then can we fully trust ourselves in relationship. Bottom line, relationships succeed when we bring the best of ourselves to it. Healthy relationships require devotion and commitment, maturity, humility and so much more.
We will examine Libra topics in the coming month, but for now it’s enough to know that light and dark are in perfect balance on our planet. The Sun on the Earth’s Equator shares light equally with both Northern and Southern hemispheres. Day and Night are of equal length. We can attune to this moment and bring ourselves into resonance with the balance.
Mercury Retrograde
Once again Mercury assumes a starring role this month. Not only will he turn retrograde in Libra, but he will be slowing to a stop about the same time that the Sun crosses Earth’s equator and enters the second half of the Zodiacal year.
On the Equinox Mercury will square Pluto and oppose Eris. This is a powerful T-Square in Cardinal signs. Mercury in Libra in the 10th House, Pluto in Capricorn in the 2nd and Eris in Aries in the 4th. Remember that Eris and Pluto are creating chaos, preparing the way for regeneration. Eris in the 4th is revealing our ego shadows, helping us see our false selves more clearly and shed them. There is much material for reflection. How do we become more authentic? How do we react to limitation? How are we being transformed? We cannot control this process, but we can take responsibility for our thoughts.
Pluto will be working on Mercury for the next 3-4 weeks. Mercury turns retrograde on September 26th and squares Pluto again on October 1st. He turns direct on October 18th and makes the final square with the Lord of the Underworld on November 2nd. The subconscious will be stimulated, as well as the unconscious. Watch your dreams for mysterious messages. Look for synchronicities. We will receive more data, maybe have some beliefs shattered, or change our mind about some things, even see the world through new eyes.
This is a really good time to take up our journals. We can commit to writing a few pages every day during this Mercury Retrograde, a chronicle of the changes Pluto and Eris, Neptune and Jupiter catalyze. Open to the process. Don’t resist or suppress anything that wants to arise at this time. Welcome it. Hang out with it no matter how uncomfortable it is. Don’t judge it, just let it inform you and have compassion for yourself. This is part of the harvest of riches the Virgo lunation brings us.
On the Full Moon Mercury is also trine Jupiter in Aquarius asking us not only to seek authenticity in all the chaos of Pluto and Eris, but to find our faith in humanity, and look beyond self-interest. Jupiter supports our minds with optimism.
Venus in Scorpio
Mercury has a co-star and that’s Venus, the brightest light in our evening sky. For the next four weeks the focus is on Libra which is the second domain of Venus, the first being Taurus. At the Full Moon Venus is at 11 Scorpio moving toward a square with Uranus in Taurus on September 30th. That will be interesting. We can expect something unexpected at this time. Perhaps something that will warm the heart or shock it out of its slumber. Uranus wants to set us free, and in the case of Venus, free to love and enjoy our lives. Scorpio is the realm of Pluto, so Venus is at work in the Underworld as well, helping us learn to love our depths. Venus brings our desire to connect with our divine selves and be at peace.
Lucifer opposite Chiron
The cherry on top of the Full Moon cake is the opposition of Lucifer to transiting Chiron. I thank Ari Moshe Wolfe for pointing this out. Lucifer is the light bringer. He was demonized in the Old Testament as one of the Fallen Angels who disobeyed god. This myth bears a strong parallel to that of Prometheus – both bringers of light/fire to humanity. Lucifer in Libra exactly opposite Chiron holds up a beacon for healing through relationship.
I must share this tidbit. In the USA natal chart Lucifer is conjunct Chariklo at 22 degrees of Aquarius in the 2nd house. Pluto is also in our 2nd house in Capricorn. Pluto is involved in our collective psychological complexes. In our Second House, we have come to value wealth, fame and power. It has brought us to a shaky state of inequality, competition and conflict. Chariklo and Lucifer are telling us it’s more important to value each other and learn to care for one another.
The Harvest isn’t over yet. We have six weeks of sacred time to receive the abundance of insight and healing that is comes from this Virgo cycle. Take a few moments every day to sync your heart and brain to maintain a balanced awareness. It’s such a small thing that will make a huge difference.
I will be back on the New Moon in Libra on October 6th. In the meantime, here are some key dates:
September 22 – Mercury squares Pluto: What is emerging?
Sept 23 – Venus opposite Uranus: Setting love free
September 25 – Lucifer opposite Chiron: Lighting the way to healing
Sept 26 – Mercury turns retrograde: Turn within to reflect
Sept 30 – Venus squares Jupiter: Open the heart wider
Oct 1 – Mercury square Pluto again: Confronting shadow
