When I began this conversation back in February of 2019, I was alarmed at the direction our country was taking. Human kindness was shrinking, Soul was withdrawing. Our planet was ailing. Fear and anger had engulfed our nation and I despaired not only for our glorious experiment in Democracy, but the fate of this blue jewel of a planet.
I began an exploration into the birth chart of the USA looking to understand our collective American psyche. I was searching for the core issues we were facing in our spiritual evolution and I was hunting for hope. You can read it all, if you missed it, in my series “What’s Going On?” Astrology assures us there is always a silver lining, It reveals itself to us as we learn to express the finest qualities of the heavenly bodies that symbolize the diverse functions of our human nature. Signs, houses, planets and invisible points in space are part of our duality and manifest within us on a spectrum from fear to love. Almost every low vibration emotion is the result of fear, a defensive reaction or suppression of it. Fear contracts us and excludes others. Love expands and opens up more space to include. It is up to us to choose. This is our birthright of free will.
When Saturn caught up with Pluto in January, I knew we were facing a tough year. I started writing then to buoy up hope, to strengthen will, increase understanding and cheerlead for our Better Angels. We had to wake up, to see what was going on, to take a stand for what we value – justice, truth, compassion and human-kindness for starters. Along the way we got to see the darkness of humanity’s shadow. We got to witness the results of our apathy. We have to practice Democracy, not just believe in it.
And so we did. 75 million of us stepped up to say “No!” to the specter of the past, to despotism, to falsehood, to cruelty and injustice that has haunted humanity for so long. We defeated Donald Trump, who is now struggling to keep his power.
Bravo to every one of you! What got me through this past year was my deep belief in us, that we would do the right thing. The world held its breath last week as we meticulously counted every ballot. The system worked beautifully in a Saturnian fashion, one ballot at a time, and finally on Saturday – Saturn’s day – Joe Biden was declared the 46th President of the United States. Shouts and cheers resounded in city neighborhoods. Church bells rang in Germany. France and England set off fireworks. The world rejoiced. Congratulations poured in from countries around the globe. Only Russia and China refrained. Hmmm.
I think it will take a while to completely sink in. The weight of the past 20 years is slowly sliding off my shoulders. It has been a roller coaster ride, but we’re going to be okay. Now we can address the multitude of problems our nation has ignored. Our infrastructure needs tending, not only the bridges and roads but the deep divide in our population. We need to restore competence and ethics in our government. We need to mend broken relations around the world. We need to address the deadly inequality in our country. We need to get this pandemic under control, and we need to tackle the next crisis on the horizon – our changing climate.
In the next 70 days we will witness Pluto at work whisking away the shattered past. My prayer is that Donald Trump preserves whatever’s left of his dignity and concedes with grace. Always the optimist! We do owe him a debt of gratitude. We got to see our collective shadow strutting on life’s stage, misusing power, self-absorbed in self-inflation, oblivious to the suffering of others. We got to see who we do not want to be. Let the healing begin. . .
