Truth is a rare commodity these days and that puts all of us in peril. Whom do we trust? Where do we get our information? These are important questions, because “alternative facts” are proliferating. 60 Minutes recently aired an alarming segment on the misuse of AI. It turns out that AI can impersonate anyone and consequently deceive us, making scams more difficult to detect.
One grandmother related that she received a phone call from her grandson who was in a panic over an automobile accident. He needed $11,000 to pay a lawyer. He told her to get the cash and give it to a courier who would take it to the lawyer’s office. She gave away precious savings because she believed what she heard.
We will face this crisis in next year’s presidential election. Already celebrities are discovering videos of themselves speaking words they never uttered. Soon we will encounter phony ads of candidates making declarations that will shock and offend us. These AI generated images will sway public opinion. It was bad enough when spokespeople asserted “alternative facts.” Now we will hear these lies from AI generated videos. We will be forced to question our senses.
The Full Moon which occurs on Saturday evening June 3rd, lies on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. Gemini is the domain of Mercury. We take in information through our senses and process it in our minds – Mercury. In Sagittarius, we formulate beliefs and develop personal dogma by which we live our lives, and make all our decisions.
We all grew up in the womb of our parent’s beliefs. Eventually we were exposed to new information and evolved beliefs of our own, but early conditioned beliefs have evolved into assumptions and form the lens through which we perceive our world. Assumptions make up the fabric of our paradigm. Part of the Great Awakening that is fueling the evolution of our collective consciousness, is the realization that our paradigm is inadequate to explain our reality. Worse, it is actually responsible for the separation and division of our population, the wanton destruction of our ecosystem, the wars of domination, the unchecked corruption that festers in our institutions and the epidemic of loneliness, anxiety, gun violence and soaring suicide rates.
It is imperative that we seek more information to free ourselves from the oppression of our competition driven paradigm. But how is this possible, when we are inundated with false information?
We are intrigued by our Information Age, but notice how it is slowly taking over our lives. I get around 3000 emails a month. You probably do, too. Social media which offered the benefits of world-wide connectivity, has fallen prey to scammers, malcontents, advertisers and propaganda that threatens our democracy.
This is how evil dictators come into power. They control through misinformation. They brainwash with propaganda, select an enemy to scapegoat, and stir up fear, outrage and hatred. Much of our population is caught in its thrall now. To secure our democracy, we need to develop discernment. We need to examine our beliefs under a microscope. Where did they come from? Childhood indoctrination? Schooling? Church? Popular culture and peers?
We even have to question our own experience, because our minds are myth-making machines that run on the program of beliefs. It is a scientific fact that our brain filters out information that does not conform to our belief system. Nevertheless, all that information is available, waiting to be discovered in the subconscious mind.
We are coming to realize that we can’t always trust our senses. Logic no longer suffices. We need to enhance our right brain faculties, develop our intuition, learn to read energy. We need to evolve our discernment.
So let’s examine the Full Moon chart through the lens of discernment, exploring the theme of truth, because truth is the passion of Sagittarius.
Full Moon Great Mutable Square
As usual I will be reflecting on the USA natal chart, which is a map of our collective consciousness. Everything I say, however, applies to each individual, in their own unique way. We all will have the Sagittarian Moon in a different House, throwing light on different areas of our lives. But we also have a collective identity, a collective subconscious and unconscious, which is a quantum field of photons carrying information from each one of us. Everything we think, feel and do is registered in this collective field. As pilgrims on a spiritual path, we are attempting to bring the best of ourselves to the fore. And that involves giving close attention to our reactive patterns. We need to dig inside for the truth about our shadow selves.
According to the cosmic clock, it’s time for shadow work. The dwarf planet Orcus is in discerning Virgo, exactly square the lunar axis in mutable signs. Sun is in the 7th House in Gemini. Moon in the 1st House in Sagittarius, conjunct our natal Ascendant. As the Full Moon illuminates this area of our chart, shining a spotlight on our collective ascendant – our self-image that we project out into the world – it reflects back to us all of our own Shadow Selves.
Opinions are running on high octane these days. The contention between conservative and progressive outlooks is heating up even more. We sit back, observe and judge. “Look at that jerk! What an idiot.” I’m sure we all have screamed at someone on the television set. Whatever the judgment, the truth is: that’s you. That’s me. That person is voicing opinions from a part of ourselves that we have denied and banished to the subconscious.
Shadow work is hard at first. We all have our precious self-image as good-deed-doers and it rattles us to have our illusions shattered. The trick is not to dive deeper into self-judgment. Okay, there’s a part of me that is greedy. Or there’s a part of me that is prejudiced, etc. The work then is to admit it, acknowledge its existence, and take responsibility for it. We remain aware of our low energy urges or reactions, but we find ways to transmute their energy. This robs them of power and simultaneously empowers our conscious selves, evolving greater awareness. Once we are used to shadow work, it can actually become interesting, even entertaining. Life turns into a magical quest for shadow gems.
Orcus is the dwarf planet that monitors the oaths we have taken in our lives. Orcus attempts to hold us to our word. Our first reaction is to think about contracts and agreements we made with others, but it’s also the agreements we have made with ourselves, and fail to execute, that Orcus is addressing. And what about the contract we made with our Souls?
Transiting Orcus is in Virgo, within a two-degree exact opposition to the USA Sedna. This dwarf dwells far out in the Ort Cloud, the next level of our evolution. All the dwarf planets between Sedna and Pluto are aspects of our consciousness that we surrendered when we came into human form. Now we have started the return trip, and as we move out into higher and higher energetic frequencies, we rediscover the strengths, gifts, powers and even mentors and guides we left behind when we crossed the threshold into this life. Sedna is the beacon we follow and this goddess in return keeps us on track, guiding our feet back onto the path when we go astray.
Sedna is part of this Great Cross in the USA 3rd House, the natural domain of Gemini and Mercury. Sedna is pointing out the need for clear thinking. Orcus in the 9th reminds us of our spiritual contracts and lends energy to transmute darkness into light. The Sun, and Moon at its fullest, lie on the horizontal axis of our chart, emphasizing the Aquarian dilemma of the duality between self and other.
Our spiritual evolution at this sacred moment in space/time involves recognizing our Oneness. We do that by recognizing and reclaiming all the parts of ourselves, integrating them into a larger whole. Eventually we realize that all of humanity is made up of the same fractured parts.
Varuna
Orcus happens to be in a very close conjunction with our natal Varuna. This powerful archetype is lending assistance in transmuting energy. Varuna manifests in different ways depending upon the frequency of our energy and consciousness. When we are unconscious it may manifest as resentment, antagonism, discontent. As we become more conscious, Varuna shows us the importance of right action. Certain situations demand we meet them. When we don’t, we lose power. Think about opportunities you were too fearful to seize; moments when you chose anger instead of love, times when you could have helped someone, but didn’t.
Varuna shows us, through our attitudes, emotions and actions, the frequency of our consciousness. This archetype is guiding us to wholeness, to full integrity and sovereignty over our lives.
All Four Mutable signs are broadcasting through this Great Square. For months we have been trapped in Fixed Squares which reveal the status quo. Mutable signs however, are about letting go, surrendering control, allowing the sacred flow of life to sweep us into the future of our dreams. Mutable signs are transitional. Gemini connects us with our manifested world through the senses, nervous system and mental activity. Virgo is the expert at sifting through information, discovering the gems and discarding the excess. Sagittarius feels the pull of Spirit, of the ideal, and goes on a quest to manifest its dreams and visions of a glorious future. Pisces reunites us with Source, washing away our footsteps in the sands of time, gathering us into its flow.
Varuna is the higher octave of Saturn. It asks us to take the next step in maturity – to become self-sufficient, self-sustaining, and self-reliant, meaning that we no longer follow the crowd, but listen to our own inner guidance. Sovereignty is a powerful state of being, achieved through exhaustive self-examination. That includes shadow work.
Fixed Grand Cross
There is another Grand Cross at the Full Moon consisting of the Nodal Axis, Pluto and Haumea. This particular formation will be in effect through the summer, as the nodes leave Fixed Taurus and Scorpio behind, and move into Cardinal Aries and Libra. The North node will retrace the steps of Jupiter’s path through Aries. Jupiter left a lot of treasures for us to find, plus he’s giving us a booster rocket into our future. On Wednesday, June 1st, Jupiter was exactly conjunct the North Node. The door to the future has blown open and we can leave the prison of our past.
The North Node will retrograde into Aries on July 17th. This is where action comes in. Cardinal signs take the initiative to create something new. This will be an exciting period of development as we feel the release from confinement.
Squaring the Nodal Axis are Pluto at 0 degrees of Aquarius, dropping hints about the coming Age before it revisits Capricorn on June 11th. We have more business to take care of in this sign.
Opposite Pluto is Haumea at 29 Libra. The creation goddess is transiting back and forth between Libra and Scorpio, just as Pluto is between Aquarius and Capricorn. We are in transition and the pace will pick up this summer.
Pluto and Haumea are working together, Pluto clearing the way by crumbling our institutions and revealing corruption, while Haumea, conjunct the South Node, is using her regenerative power to transform the dregs of our past. It is the actions of these two planets, and our response to them, that determines our collective future. Everyone gets a vote. Failure to vote is one of the neglected actions that diminishes power.
When I say vote, I’m not referring to next year’s election, although I urge everyone to vote then, I’m saying we vote with our very being. We vote by being the future we want to become. We vote by living up to our values. We vote with every thought, every emotion, every action, for the future we want to manifest.
Supporting Cast
Much is happening on the 13th degrees of the Zodiac. Besides the Sun, Moon, Orcus and Varuna, our natal Sun is at 13 degrees of Cancer, emphasizing our true identity. While it doesn’t form traditional aspects with the lunar axis, it is in resonance with the 13th degree of all the signs.
Our natal Saturn is sextile the Moon and trine the Sun in this chart. Lying in the 10th House at 14+ Libra, Saturn is about harmony, peace, balance and justice. Those values are part of the mix.
As of June 1st, while Jupiter was joining the North Node, Mercury came out of its retrograde shadow. It’s looking ahead, getting wild suggestions from Uranus as he passes by on June 4th.
Enjoy the brightness of Venus high in the heavens when you can. She will turn retrograde in July and begin her descent back toward the Sun. This journey is often compared to the passage of Inanna into the Underworld.
Finally I have to comment on the fact that Jupiter was square Pluto which is transiting our House of finance. The opposition was almost exact as President Biden rescued us from the debt crisis and secured a reasonable budget for 2024. It’s a great testament to his negotiating skills.
Saturn turns retrograde on the New Moon in Gemini on June 17th. I’ll be back then when we’ll also take a look at the Summer Solstice. There’s a rumor that it will be a watershed event.
