As I write this, it’s Valentine’s Day, when we express our love and focus on our lovers. The Heavens celebrate with us as Venus and Mars run through a field of wildflowers, hair streaming behind them in the golden sun, while the music swells to a crescendo on the Full Moon when they form a perfect conjunction and fall into one another’s arms. The synchronicity of our Valentine’s Day with the Full Moon in Leo and the reunion of Venus and Mars screams romance and love!
Of course it’s also a day to sell candy and flowers and romantic dinners, but the Full Moon chart is telling us so much more about maturing our love beyond romance. Or expanding our concept of romance to include falling in love with life, with Earth, with humanity. The Full Moon at 27+ Leo in the 9th House is asking us to see the bigger picture, to live from our hearts; in other words, to broaden and mature our love.
What a blessing that this energy will be the context of Pluto’s return on the 22nd! This is a karmic moment for America and we need all the love we can get, and give, for safe passage.
So let’s look at this dramatic Full Moon Chart:
Full Moon in Leo
The Moon is exactly opposite the Sun on February 16th at 8:56 a.m. Pacific time, just a couple of hours after Venus and Mars reunite. It is also opposite the USA natal Moon which is conjunct natal Pallas and Quaoar. I’ll be sharing more about this dwarf planet in coming posts, but Quaoar creates order out of chaos through song and dance – creation through joyous self-expression, not control or force or domination. Pallas lends wisdom and justice to the mix.
Furthermore, the emphasis is on the 2nd House spanning two signs – Capricorn and Aquarius. The focus is on reassessing our values, making sure they are not just self-serving, but include the wellbeing of everyone. The work we do, under Capricorn’s influence, to integrate all aspects of ourselves, to take responsibility for our impact on the world and to live with full integrity will have a positive impact on our society and ripple out through the collective unconscious.
At Full Moons we can see in the dark! Much is revealed. It’s the full bloom of the themes that were seeded at the New Moon in Aquarius.
The Sun is in the Third House meaning a lot of new information will come to light, a lot of feelings will get stirred and there will be reactions and responses. This new information will have an impact on the future of our country. It is conjunct the USA natal Moon and therefore triggering a new phase in the evolution of our collective subconscious.
Every Full Moon involves an opposition between the Sun and Moon in opposing signs. They work together on an axis. Aquarius is the sign of humanity. It is forward looking, ultimately concerned with the welfare of the whole, yet celebrating the freedom and uniqueness of every individual. We have not yet learned how to do this, but it will be the contextual theme of the Aquarian Age.
In Leo we develop the traits that make us good leaders, or shepherds of the future. Leo is about shining our light. It is the domain of the Sun, the spirit of love and courage, strength and leadership. Leo is associated with the intrepid heart.
Leo Moon in the 9th House is casting light on the bigger picture. The 9th House is about philosophy, higher learning, spiritual ideology and paradigm formation. What if we looked at life through our hearts? What if we found the courage to live in our love? What if we came to realize that we are one with the Divine? How would we be different? What kind of world could we co-create?
When the Moon is full we can see into the shadows. We can spot those attitudes that separate us from life. We can take a good look at our belief system and ask how it is serving us and others. We can question our assumptions and seek the new truth that is ready to reveal itself.
That brings us to the Moon’s Nodes.
Fixed Grand Cross
The Sun/Moon axis in Aquarius and Leo is forming a square with the axis of the Moon’s nodes in Taurus and Scorpio. These are all fixed signs. Cardinal signs initiate the new; fixed signs pause to think about it, process it and integrate the change. But this is where we can become resistant and cling to the status quo. We can get fixed in habits, beliefs, fears, negative attitudes and addiction to our life story as recited by ego mind in a continuous loop.
When the Moon’s nodes are involved, we have come to a choice point. Our past and future hang in the balance. What skills and gifts can we bring to the moment that will tip the balance toward a brighter future? This is where the rubber hits the road so to speak. Do we want to start off with our feet on the brake?
The North Node recently regressed from Gemini into Taurus. The focus now is on our physical well-being. Are we taking care of our bodies? Are we listening to our body’s wisdom? Are we finding a healthy balance of work and pleasure? Do we take time to simply enjoy being? Taurus is the domain of Venus. It is a climate of sensuality, beauty and harmony. This energy is a gift. The North Node is pointing to the feminine qualities of life – caring, nurturing, beautifying, bringing more peace into our daily lives, the realm of the 6th House. North Node is showing us that right now the key to the future can be found in cultivating spiritual awareness in our daily tasks and routines.
The South Node in Scorpio in the 12th House is uncovering secrets we have hidden from ourselves, or are trying to cover up from others. The current trend toward censorship of topics, issues, books, even words! is just one example. Our Constitution guarantees freedom of speech. Our Public Schools are the domain of the people, paid for by the people. Freedom of speech is an absolute. When we allow even our words to be banned, we are giving away our power. If we can’t use the vocabulary of justice and truth, how can we ever expect it to thrive?
The January 6th Committee continues to uncover information about the insurrection and attack on the Capitol a year ago. The web of coconspirators continues to grow. Before too long, all of its findings will be revealed to us. We will get to see the corruption in our government in technicolor. If enough people wake up to the truth, we have a chance to save our democracy.
More on Pluto
The Full Moon is also quincunx Pluto, meaning that what happens in this lunation will have an indirect impact on the transformation of our reality. At the same time Pluto’s return is having a very direct impact. It’s already within 7 minutes of exact conjunction. What are the themes playing out in our reality?
We have Russia about to drag us back into the Cold War, or worse, armed conflict. We have the Canadian truckers’ protest supported by conservatives in our country, donations from followers of the conspiracy theory labeled QAnon. I have to say that we are battling phantoms. Who or what is Q and is there even a Q, or is it just a leaderless movement of malcontents who don’t understand that freedom goes hand in hand with responsibility? And what about Antifa, which doesn’t exist either but would be worth joining if it did. Of course we are against Fascism. We fought the whole second world war to stop its toxic spread.
These are Plutonian issues on display, stirring up rancor and chaos through the square to Eris. Luckily Pluto is in a T Square not only with Eris, but with Haumea, the driving force behind rebirth. As we disintegrate into chaos, Haumea stands by to midwife the birth of a new world order. But first comes the prolonged labor.
Jupiter Sextile Uranus
In this lovely relationship, Jupiter is just shy of 11 degrees of Pisces square Uranus at 11 Taurus. Uranus the Great Awakener, casting lightning bolts that briefly light up the darkness of the unknown, gets a boost of spiritual energy from the planet of faith and optimism. Watch your dreams from now until the end of April. Jupiter in Pisces brings inspiration through dreams that reveal our true divine essence.
Jupiter is in the 3rd House just past a conjunction with our natal Ceres and headed for a conjunction with natal Sedna at 15 degrees of Pisces. Sedna will set us back on the spiritual path when we stray too far, and I fear it’s safe to say, we have really strayed. That happens on March 7th when the Sun joins Jupiter at the same degree. It may or may not manifest as a physical event, but our path into an awakened spirituality will get a cosmic helping hand.
Conclusion and Cosmic Calendar
With Venus and Mars conjunct on the Full Moon we have an opportunity to bring our lives back into balance between Being and Doing. This lunation square the Moon’s Nodes – the intersection of Spirit, Soul and physical reality – brings an opportunity to tip the balance toward a more enlightened future. With Pluto making its return to our collective natal Pluto, our country’s unresolved and suppressed issues are coming to a boil. We cannot ignore racial injustice by forbidding the teaching of our troubled past. It will follow us into the future and poison our potential. We cannot leave out whole segments of our society by banning the word “Gay.” We cannot cling to a paradigm of control and domination and successfully evolve into our Aquarian future.
It all comes down to us and the choices we make. With the Full Moon in Leo we can choose to open our hearts, to learn that vulnerability is a great strength. We can choose to meet the world with appreciation, gratitude and wonder. We can choose to be kind to one another and celebrate the greatest gift of all – Love. And we can choose to come out of hiding and stand up for what we believe. We can step into leadership and light the way for others. We are being initiated into Spiritual Adulthood. What does that mean? It means realizing our divine essence, living from the heart, listening to the wisdom of the body, paying attention to attitudes and inner reactive patterns that cause separation and taking responsibility for the frequency we broadcast into the world.
