“If the outer form of who we are in this life is conveyed by our physical bodies, the inner form – our real beauty and authenticity – is conveyed in the quality of our aliveness. This is where the secret of our being lies.” Duane Elgin, Choosing Earth
A Full Moon in Aries carries both the energy of new beginnings and the fullness of a process that began six months ago at the Aries New Moon. Every New Moon kicks off a monthly cycle, but also an annual cycle and when Aries is involved, the message is “Know Thyself.”
I was heartened today to read that more Americans are meditating, having awakening experiences that expand their understanding, feeling spiritual peace and wellbeing. 46% of the population say they experience a deep sense of wonder about the universe. Now these surveys were last conducted in 2009. What is significant is the growth of an awakening population. Only 22% of our population in 1962 had spiritual awakening experience. By 1994 it was up to 33%. As of 2009, it was about to tip the scales at 49%. Could this be the critical mass needed to shift our reality?
I thought I would start off with some good news, since my last two posts were rather “heavy.” I do want to point out, however, that Haumea is on the threshold of Scorpio and will cross over on October 1st. Haumea is entering the Underworld. I cannot predict the outcome with any certainty, but considering that Haumea brings regenerative energy to the scene, I’d wager that her passage will result in the birth of a new Humanity.
We have waded into the darkness of Pluto’s realm over the past fifteen years. The decline of our civilization and our collective sanity is blatantly clear. We are all suffering now at some level because we are enmeshed in a dying reality. We all feel the depth of our anxiety. The vast majority of us were swept into this realm unwillingly. But the smart ones amongst us are screwing up their diligence and working with the darkness. This is the alchemical passage. This is the path to rebirth, the work of the spiritual boundary dwellers. We make that descent into the bowels of our consciousness and face the darkness. While that may sound scary, the truth is that what we face is simply ourselves – our pain, our wounds, our grief – all of the discarded parts of ourselves that are unloved. And the joy of reuniting with lost parts, the release of pent up love, the relief of a burden shifted off our shoulders, and a clearing of our vision make this journey worthwhile.
When I picture Haumea entering Scorpio, I sense she carries a Light. She brings the powerful energy of aliveness, of rebirth, of release, of joyous creation and a passionate love of life itself. Her journey through Scorpio will take us to mid-century. Haumea enters Sagittarius for the first time in 2049, but slow moving as she is, there’s a period of transition. For the next 25 years Haumea will light the way for us, equip us with regenerative energy, and support our initiation into the next stage of human consciousness.
Haumea will be moving through the 11th and 12th Houses of our nation’s chart. The 11th House is associated with Aquarius and our collective consciousness. The 12th House takes us into the collective unconscious. Remember that Pluto has been squaring Haumea ever since 2022, and will continue to do so through 2028, preparing us for the Aquarian Age. Pluto makes his second entry into Aquarius on January 20th, 2024 and will finally leave Capricorn behind on November 19th, right after our next presidential election. Next year will be contentious. We just have to keep in mind the fact that Pluto will be exiting Capricorn and the paradigm of “power-over,” and moving into Aquarius where power once again resides with the people.
I believe Haumea will help us knit our country back together, as we embrace diversity and come fully alive. Haumea will cross the USA Ascendant on January 9, 2060. That’s when Duane Elgin predicts humanity will awaken and begin to transform our way of life into a form that is compatible with the Earth.
If we can overcome our fear, let our curiosity lead the way and follow Haumea’s Light, our own passage through the Underworld will mature us into Spiritual Adults. It’s an opportunity for collective healing and reuniting. And we do it with kindness. We bring our love into the light. We cultivate inner peace. We vibrate at the frequency of joy and our energy flows throughout the whole of human consciousness. We create a context of love – a womb to nurture the new being gestating within.
Full Moon in Aries
In a lovely synchronicity this morning I was reading about Aliveness and I realized that Aries is the essence of Aliveness. I capitalize the word because it is a state of being, not just a noun. This is really the key to so much – the key to our power, our pleasure, our sensuality, our sense of being nurtured by life itself. Aliveness is what is lacking right now. I get it, it’s pretty painful at the moment and very tempting to numb ourselves to the cacophony of chaos.
So what does Aliveness feel like? In my experience it’s pretty intense. Basically it’s a direct experience of being alive. It isn’t a thought, but an experience of energy flowing through our bodies activating sensation, emotions, thoughts, feelings and ultimately action. It’s a process of deep self-awareness, in the moment – an expanded state of consciousness in which we are fully aware of our multidimensionality, experiencing the life force from a position of witnessing. It begins with Mindfulness.
Most of the time we get caught up in our experience and remain at the effect of it. We get overwhelmed by emotions, entranced by the drama of our lives, fearful of the future, handicapped by the past and reacting to life rather than living it. We are victimized by subconscious programming that elicits primitive emotions like fear, anger and resentment. We live in our heads, in an imagined life. To top it off there are so many distractions that offer a respite from reality. Rarely are we having the raw experience of aliveness. We’re so used to dumbing down our energy. As kids we were wild with it. I remember being told to “pipe down” or “sit still.” It isn’t in the nature of a child to sit still. And through our lives we are constantly testing the room, so to speak, trying to be acceptable, not too different, always in control in order to fit in. We are shadows of our real selves.
However, it’s not in the nature of Aries to be dumbed down. Aries is too exuberant with the pure joy of being alive and exploring life, discovering who we are and what we are capable of. With an Aries Full Moon, the final Super Moon of 2023, we will be engulfed in the power of Aliveness. Plus the themes of the last Aries New Moon, which occurred within hours of the Spring Equinox, are coming to fruition. Pluto was turning retrograde at the time. It stations direct on October 11th. The Nodes were still in Taurus and Scorpio but would enter the Aries/Libra axis in July. There was a Ring of Fire eclipse, just as there will be at the next New Moon on October 14th. This Full Moon chart echoes the themes of the New Moon chart, but much has transpired in six months.
We can look back and see how far we have come. What themes predominated in our life? How has our perspective shifted? In the Aries Solar Eclipse post I describe the light and shadow side of Aries and Libra and the themes that kicked off a new Zodiacal year at the Spring Equinox. You might want to review them to align with the Aries cycle and make the most of this Full Moon.
The Sun at Full Moon will be at 6 Libra and the Moon at 6 Aries. Aries is ruled by Mars, our impulse to action, while Libra is the home of Venus. Mars at the Full Moon is in Libra, moving toward a conjunction with the South Node. Perhaps the gentling influence of Venus will allow Mars to put his energy into self-examination and reflection with the intention of releasing old reactive patterns.
Libra is loaded at this Full Moon. The Sun is in a tight conjunction with Pallas Athena, with her passion for justice and her wisdom, having sprung into life from the head of the god of all gods. Two degrees away is Makemake, the dwarf planet assisting our awakening through expanded perception. This dwarf is the higher octave of Uranus and broadens our perspective to include bigger and bigger pictures of reality.
The Moon at opposition makes many aspects with USA natal planets. For instance it is the fulcrum of our natal opposition between Eris in our first House in Capricorn, and Venus which is conjunct Jupiter in the 7th House in Cancer. The Moon squares both, forming a T-Square from our 4th House, the House of our origins, our indigenous ancestors, our forefathers and mothers and the collective karma handed down through our harsh paradigm of materialism and alienation. I believe we can release ourselves along with our ancestors and the generations to come by healing destructive conditioning from our past.
Natally we have Chiron in this House, an obvious key to wounds within the collective. Transiting Chiron is within 2 degrees of its return, but is currently retrograde and won’t reach its natal position until April 20, 2024. Those of you over 50 have experienced a Chiron return. It’s an opportunity not only to heal the wounds that arise, but to step into greater authenticity and power.
Six degrees away from transiting Chiron is Eris, exact within 1 minute of our North Node at 24+ Aries. This is another opportunity to heal collective wounds, to take a step toward a better future by embracing authenticity and nurturing the feminine warrior within who will not tolerate inequality in our republic. This is a chance to do some grief work and release our grievances.
The Moon is also exactly trine the USA North Node at 6 Leo in the 8th House. The North Node is a portal to our future. Our Future Selves and the world we dream of are calling to us now, drawing us closer to the threshold.
But there’s more. The Full Moon Axis is squaring Vesta in Cancer, exactly conjunct our natal Venus which is nestled close to Jupiter. Vesta is the keeper of the sacred flame. She tends Soul in service of Spirit. Her devotion is intense and focused. In our 7th House she is clearly asking us to tend our loving relationships, to deepen them and hold them sacred.
Vesta is in our 7th House opposite two dwarfs and a centaur in our 1st House of identity: Ixion at 2 degrees of Capricorn, Pholus at 5+ and Quaoar at 6+. Ixion is encouraging us to follow our passion, step off the beaten path and forge a new one. Pholus is part of the healing group of centaurs that can bring us the insight we need to resolve chronic issues. Quaoar’s message is to embody our spirituality by developing a practice. It can be journaling, meditation, Yoga, dance, ritual, establishing an altar that reminds us daily of our own devotion. We all need to bring spirit more into our daily activities to foster a mindset of the sacredness of life.
Thus at this Super Full Moon in Aries, we have a Grand Cardinal Cross emphasizing the opportunity for some very meaningful work. In the next two weeks we can prepare ourselves for eclipse season which begins with another Ring of Fire eclipse at 21+ degrees of Libra. We can process shadow material, (Orcus is opposite our USA Sedna), release old wounds and grievances by actually grieving our losses. Grief work is cleansing and empowering. It’s also something we tend to put off because we fear the pain. I’m learning that grief will always be with us and it is important to honor it for the gifts of compassion, vulnerability and maturity it offers.
