The Moon, in a nation’s chart, represents the people – their collective experience and the meaning they make of it. This Moon will be powerful in terms of high energy, creativity and healing. With the Sun in the 10th House, our public life, and the Moon in the 4th, our home life and inner sanctum, the focus is on the balance between our inner and outer lives. How much that goes on “out there” determines how we feel within? An even better question is “How much of what happens within – our beliefs and attitudes and emotional climate – determines what happens out there?”
Our nation is undergoing a lot of change and during this year in particular, with the square between Saturn and Uranus, we are witnessing the struggle between the past with its institutions and antiquated paradigm, and the new world that is starting to emerge along with the energy shift from Earth into Air.
Full Moon on the Aries/Libra Axis
On October 20th the Moon becomes full near the end of Aries. At that time the Moon is conjunct Eris in the USA 4th House while the Sun in our nation’s 10th House is only four degrees away from Mars and in very close conjunction with Haumea.
Pluto forms a T Square with this Full Moon axis as well. I have written a bit about the two-year square between Pluto and Eris in past newsletters. These two dwarf planets represent the cycle of death and rebirth. They foster chaos together, clearing the way for change and bestowing another opportunity for us to evolve through loss and hardship.
That doesn’t sound great, I know, but we see the effects of it everywhere. Life is uncertain. The systems we have relied on are failing us. Pandemic has brought death and instead of pulling together through challenging times, we are torn apart by political differences.
This Full Moon offers hope and a chance to shift our consciousness. We cannot conquer the chaos, but we can see the unlimited potential that chaos offers and rest assured that healing, rebirth and regeneration are approaching from our future.
I heard a lecture over the weekend by a German astrologer about the paradigm shift we are undergoing. He spoke of the many major planetary aspects that occur over the next four years. His lecture was entitled “Keep Holding On.” He said by 2026 we will see the return of respect and good will. We will be more settled into the Air Epoch. Our paradigm will have shifted and indeed will continue to shift as we awaken to Oneness consciousness. He also put forth an intriguing metaphor. Speaking of Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions, he reminded us that this aspect has traditionally meant the unseating of one king and the coronation of another. In the case of 2020, we got the Corona virus which has crowned all of humanity as the next “king of the kingdom.” The power is shifting to the people.
The Air element unites us all. The air we breathe was exhaled by 7+ billion others. The oxygen came from trillions of trees and plants. We literally breathe each other and all of nature. As we move into the Aquarian Age, it is the collective that we must serve. That doesn’t mean we lose our individuality, but we can only individually thrive when the health of the whole is thriving. That includes Mother Nature, the very womb of life in which we live.
Haumea conjunct the Sun
So how does this Moon further our growing awareness? For starters it happens in Aries – new beginnings. But the Queen of this Full Moon is Haumea. This dwarf planet is the fastest spinning planet that we know of in our expanded solar system. She is about the size of Pluto but has a more oval shape – almost like an egg which is fitting when we consider the mythology of Haumea.
This Hawaiian goddess of creation was prolific. She gave birth from all parts of her body creating volcanos, rainforests, all the animals and flowers – the abundance of nature. Legend has it that every time Haumea created new life, she recreated herself. That’s an interesting metaphor isn’t it. When we think of the things we create – be it families, works of art, constructive business deals, or inner peace – we are transformed by our creations. Creator and creation are inextricably intertwined in an evolutionary dance.
The Sun, which is the Spirit that enlivens us, conjunct the goddess of prolific creation! It’s a great time to create something new in our lives. It doesn’t have to be a monument. It is the act of creating that catalyzes the transformation of self, not the end product.
Haumea is a goddess of rebirth. A great many of us have her in close conjunction with Pluto. She has been standing by, waiting for her time, and it has finally come. She is there to remind us not only that we are creative beings but that we are enmeshed in the greatest creation of all, the natural world around us. We can hold the intention to regenerate our beautiful world and thus ourselves through her bounty.
Mercury opposite Chiron
Mercury turned direct on Sunday the 17th of October at 10+ degrees of Libra. Retrograde Chiron is at 9:54 Aries – very tight opposition. After the three-week reflective retrograde of Mercury, we are ready to move forward again. In Libra we can find peace of mind, a clearer understanding of ourselves and our relationships.
Chiron has been teaching us how to live with loss and keep going. Dedicated to healing, this centaur brings up old wounds so we can make peace with them. Chiron teaches the lessons that can be learned from wounding – compassion, understanding, character building and inner strength. Mercury opposite has a clear view of our woundedness. If Chiron brings forth an old wound, welcome it, embrace it, look for its meaning and contribution to your life, then release it with gratitude into the ubiquitous air and let it be carried away on a frivolous wind.
Mercury at the Full Moon forms a Grand Trine with Black Moon Lilith in Gemini and Saturn in Aquarius. It’s possible to perceive an ongoing challenge in a new light. Black Moon Lilith is conjunct Ceres – another strong reminder of our interdependence with Mother Earth. The goddesses are activated. Mercury also is the apex of a Finger of God, or Yod. The sextile is between Pallas and Uranus. We can expect insights and an upgrade to our wisdom. The key is taking time for silence and stillness so we can hear that still small voice. Writing in a journal can likewise bring surprises and insight.
Moving Forward Again
Since the New Moon, Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter and Mercury have all turned direct. Life is going to pick up the pace again. We may see more confrontation and dissent on the news. It’s an opportunity to check our frequency and hold the context of peace and love. The easiest way to raise frequency is to reflect for a moment on the blessings of our lives – the beautiful planet we live on, the people we love and those who love us back, the many acts of kindness and generosity we have witnessed.
On a personal note, I have been scheduled for cardioversion on Full Moon day. I go into the hospital at 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday. Apparently they will stop my heart and restart it. When I saw that Haumea was involved with the Full Moon, I realized this is my chance for rebirth.
We have been taught to pray for things – to supplicate, even bargain with the gods. The problem with asking for things in prayer is that we are declaring our lack of them. So, if you are inclined to pray for me, I ask that you give thanks that this procedure has brought my heart back into its natural rhythm and I have a new lease on life.
Blessings of this potent Full Moon!
