Holy Cosmos Batman! If ever there was a time for hyperbole, this week is it. It has the potential to transform us and our lives forever. Not only is there a Full Moon in Aquarius, opposite the Leo Sun, but there are significant portals opening and energies flowing to give us an evolutionary boost. “Want to take a ride?”
As I’m writing this on Sunday afternoon, the astronauts have just returned from the International Space Station. When the rocket launched their capsule, “The Dragon”, on May 26th, I wrote about the symbolism of the synchronous shift of the Nodes into new signs. The Moon’s Nodes, in ancient astrology, are the head and tail of a dragon that snakes across the solar system crossing the ecliptic at points that retrograde through the Zodiac. Thus the North Node moved backwards into Gemini from Cancer; the South Node from Capricorn into Aquarius.
This was a significant energetic shift. For 19 months we had been weighed down by the Saturnian energies of Capricorn, trapped in our fears of the unknown and wanting security. We had to face these fears, we had to make adjustments, we had to assess ourselves and our world. We are seeing with new eyes now, but there is still a lot of “growing up” to do.
I have stressed that Saturn’s job is to help us mature. He gets our attention by throwing up boundaries and barriers. He hems us in if we’re headed in the wrong direction. I’m not saying that the Pandemic was caused by Saturn. I am saying that it suits his purpose. We can see how immature we still are as a nation. The “Me First Syndrome” marches side by side with acts of heroic selflessness. Adolescent consciousness insists on its right to do whatever it wants, prolonging the pandemic, killing thousands and impoverishing millions of people while destroying our economy.
Adults take responsibility. They wear masks, isolate themselves and make sacrifices to help others. Adults make tough decisions, thinking long-term. If we had just completely shut down the country for two months, like New Zealand, we would be up and running now. Kids would be going back to school. Parents would be back at work. Money would be circulating again. But no, as usual, we sacrificed long-term benefits for instant gratification. It is this immature mindset that needs to evolve.
Meanwhile the Universe offers up gifts and this week is abundant with them.
The Full Moon
A Full Moon is always a time of illumination. If you recall, two weeks ago was a Blue Moon, meaning a second New Moon in the same sign, Cancer in this case. When that happens, the Sun moves into a new sign within a couple of days. The Full Moon, therefore, will be off-axis. Cancer is opposite Capricorn. This month, however, the Full Moon is in Aquarius opposite a Leo Sun. Fire and Air energies.
I have written about Leo before (see last year’s post “Express Yourself.”) The Sun rules Leo. This is his domain. Leo is associated with the heart. Think of the lion-hearted. The Sun is beaming courage and heart energy which the Aquarian Moon is reflecting to us.
The Sun/Moon axis spans Leo in the 8th house of the USA chart and Aquarius in the 2nd. 90 degrees from both is Uranus in Taurus, forming a T Square. Uranus rules Aquarius and is known for producing dramatic change seemingly out of the blue. Uranus is master of the unexpected. This planet lies beyond Saturn and is our entry into unseen realms. Uranus carries an electric charge – rather like a cattle prod – and shocks us awake if we aren’t paying attention.
I obviously can’t predict what will come, but we are entering a climate of dramatic change. Mars brings more energy to the mix. He squares Jupiter on August 4th and Pluto on the 13th. We may see some more dominator behavior, such as troops sent against American cities. The patriarchal paradigm is crumbling and the patriarchs aren’t happy about it. They will use the same old tools, however: attempts at control, demonstrations of force, inciting of fear, and another barrage of endless lies.
Mercury is conjunct Vesta on the New Moon degree of two weeks ago, asking us to consider our security issues. Time to make peace with uncertainty. What is it that you really want and why don’t you go for it? What is the truth of who you are and what is holding you back? How do we lift ourselves out of codependence, insecurity, fear? We do it with decisive acts of bravery. We have Mars in Aries and the Sun in Leo – courage galore.
Mars is conjunct Black Moon Lilith and Eris – two powerful, independent and fearless goddesses. In addition, Pallas Athena is conjunct Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn. She comes in her full array of armor brandishing her sword. The powerful dynamic Feminine Energy is at work. We see it in courageous women who are facing down “The Man,” be it Alexandria Ocasio Cortez or the woman who stood naked in a Portland street and stared down military police, or the beautiful mothers locking arms to protect our protesters.
The Galactic Center
Mercury and Vesta in Cancer are sextile Sedna in Taurus and form a Yod with the South Node of the Moon. Sedna is the new outer limit of our solar system and represents a greatly expanded boundary to human consciousness. We have a lot of new room to grow. A Yod is also called a “Finger of God.” As I’ve said before, when God points at something, we should snap to attention. The South Node is the repository of all our old wounds and unfinished business – our karmic collection.
The South Node is at 28 degrees of Sagittarius in the USA first house conjunct the Galactic Center! You might enjoy a brief NASA video of this area of space. It will help you visualize the Galactic Center in meditation. I researched this phenomenon and found the following:
The Galactic Center “is probably the second strongest spot in any astrology chart, following the Sun. It is a stunning source of energy, motivation and aspiration. The Galactic Center is the Sun of our Sun.” Paul O. Hewit
“The Galactic Center surges like a Roman Candle of infrared energy. Emanations of infrared energy blast down upon us and perform two primary functions on our awareness. First, IFR opens up the subconscious mind. This opening asks us to release and forget emotional trauma. . . . Second, IFR blasts open the root chakra in the energy system. This chakra releases the old, regenerates our energy, and lifts us off our duffs with renewed inspiration and a sense of real progress.” Philip Sedgwick from Chiron and Friends by Zane B Stein
There is a good, short article on the Galactic Center Astrology site, including historic, astronomical and metaphysical information. In Vedic astrology the GC is a point of awakening, where you find the deepest truth within yourself. It is evident that this point on our ecliptic is powerful. It carries the potential to set us free from the past and to launch us further on the evolutionary path. The Galactic Center is the source of our evolutionary impulse.
We don’t really have to do anything but be willing to let go. The South Node can release our karmic past, and once we let go, we will be drawn toward the North Node where Venus awaits – the Divine Feminine, Unconditional Love. Interestingly the South Node is in the USA first house – the house of Me First. Venus is in the 7th – the house of relationship.
The Lion’s Gate
During the coming week we will be building toward a climax of spiritual energy. On August 8th, 8/8, the brightest star Sirius will align with the Great Pyramid of Giza increasing the flow of cosmic energy and strengthening the bridge between material and spiritual realms. Another portal opens. You can read more at Ask Angels.
They suggest that when Sirius aligns with the Great Pyramid “there is an intense surge of light which awakens DNA, activates the human energy field and transmits high vibrational frequencies and codes of awakening.”
Astro Style says “The presence of the Lion’s Gate energy is aligned with the heart center and embodies the Leo traits of courage, strength and expression. This portal is sweeping all of humanity into our next phase, where the apex is centered on unconditional love.”
Don’t forget the comet Neowise. Gemini Brett and Gary Caton, both shamanic astrologers and keen astronomers, talk about the comet on this YouTube video and share their amazing photos.
That’s a lot of information, I know. I don’t expect you to retain it, but I do hope you make the most of this week. Take an inventory of what stands in your way, what holds you back, what stunts your growth and agree to let it all go. Be unflinchingly honest. Let yourself be released, open to the new energies, allow them to work in your depths. The more time you sit in stillness, or spend in solitude in nature, the more of this energy you can integrate. And don’t try to figure it out. You can’t know yet. Embrace not knowing.
