Once again I am challenged to find words that do justice to the profound potency of this Holy-Day season. 2022 began with a New Moon in Capricorn, full of potential, but requiring us to take a stand on what we value. We did our inner work. We found the conviction and courage to live by our values. We met that challenge and now, as the year ends, we have a second New Moon in Capricorn at 01:32 degrees, less than 48 hours after the December Solstice. The theme is new beginnings, the return of Light, symbolically the triumph of light over dark and the return of Hope as we begin to see our dreams bear fruit.
So let’s look at the Solstice Chart and let it warm our hearts. Since the New Moon is so close, the only significant change between the charts is the location of the Moon itself, which is still in Sagittarius on the Solstice, close to the USA Ascendant, encouraging our dreams, ideals and our pursuit of spiritual truth.
Eventful Time
The week before Christmas is a time of culminations and previews of change. It is not just a coincidence that the January 6th Committee brought its investigation to a close on Monday and voted unanimously to recommend prosecution of our ex-President on four counts of felony. The reign of terror threatening our Democracy is losing steam, but it served us well. We got very clear on what we do not want, and that gave us the foundation on which to rebuild a New America. We will look back on this time as a reaffirmation of our Social Contract and the beginning of a rebirth of our nation.
Almost with glee, Jupiter leaped into Aries on Tuesday morning. He begins his race through this sign and heads into Taurus in its favorite month of May. Aries is the first sign of our Zodiac, associated with the Spring Equinox, rebirth of the land and the exuberant thrust of human spirit into full engagement with life. We have 5 months to ride the wave of this energy into manifestation.
Aries is ruled by Mars, currently winding up its retrograde through Gemini. He turns direct on January 12th and lends his power by sextile to Jupiter until March 25, 2023 when he enters Cancer. The potential is enormous. We not only have the dreams and a vision which the Sagittarius Moon is beaming directly across to Gemini Mars, we have Jupiter – planet of growth, expansion, faith, joy, great good fortune – working in tandem with Mars to manifest our dreams.
I rarely talk about setting goals, which is a new age standard recommendation. There’s usually an energy of control involved. But what I do suggest is getting clear about what you want, who you are (Aries), what gifts you have been given and how to share them in the rebuilding of our new world. This is not a mental exercise. Feel into your deepest wishes for the wellbeing of humanity. Begin with gratitude for all you do have, for all the love, all the laughter, the very privilege of being alive during this monumental quantum leap humanity is taking. Connect with your spiritual core, with your Higher Self, your Soul. Listen. Let them inform and guide.
What are you passionate about? Follow that. What makes your heart sing? Follow that and the path will open before you. Jupiter is about faith, which we need because reality doesn’t shift with the facility of thought. It is dense, slow moving, but we have been shifting our energy, our perception, our convictions for years now. In 2023 we will begin to see positive signs of change. It is inevitable as the energetic context shifts so dramatically. But it is also driven by our desire, and the loftier our desire, the more wondrous our future will be.
Wednesday is the Solstice, the moment the Sun appears to stand still. Actually it is the Earth that is still. The Sun doesn’t shift from North to South and back. Our Earth tilts its axis so that the north and south hemispheres are pointed at the Sun in opposite seasons. Our Earth has tilted its Northern Hemisphere as far as possible away from the light of the Sun. Like a pendulum it pauses and then swings in the opposite direction. I learned from Harmony Ray that it is on Christmas Day that the Earth axis begins to move again.
The Solstice marks the still point between dark and light. Take the time to mark it in your own consciousness. Our inner universe is every bit as vast as the outer cosmos. The deeper we go the more wonders we discover. Solstice provides deep peace and stillness at the very time when we are rushing to finish jobs, prepare for holidays. If we dip into the stillness, it can ground us and give us the very strength we need at this time.
Light a candle in a dark room and connect with the holiness of this time. Mark the end of a dark phase in our history and feel into the joy of our return. We have been through the Underworld, and the Solstice reminds us that the Light always returns.
The Solstice Chart
So what is so extraordinary about this Solstice? For starters there are multiple signs of rebirth. As the Sun enters 00 degrees of Capricorn, it is tightly conjunct Hygeia. I don’t want to set up expectations, but this could be a signal that we are through the worst of our pandemic and it has revealed to us the weaknesses of our health care system. Capricorn is about institutions, societal norms, our collective patriarchal/capitalistic paradigm (which we are going to address in depth next year).
When Saturn moved into conjunction with Pluto on January 12, 2020 it triggered a period of transformation. With Saturn present we were confronted with boundary issues, literally in the mistreatment of aspiring immigrants, in the need to protect ourselves from a deadly virus, our separation and isolation from one another, with questions of how much control we were giving to our government, corporations, our healthcare system over our individual freedoms and rights.
Our social network was shattered with conflict and opposition and the forces of authoritarianism were on the rise – very Capricorn in its darkest manifestation – and the first necessary step to transformation. While darkness played out on the physical stage, hundreds of thousands of us around the world held frequencies of support, compassion and gratitude along with dreams of a better world. And we did our work to transmute darkness into light and love. In 2023 we will begin to see our “reality” shift.
As the Sun moves into Capricorn, it is exactly square to Jupiter at 00 Aries. Directly across from Jupiter is Ceres at 00 Libra in our 10th House. This powerful T Square brings together Spirit, Humanity and Mother Earth all on the World Axis. In my wildest dreams it reveals the potential of our nation to lead the world into Peace. Libra is the sign of justice, peace and beauty and our relationship to everything, including our beloved planet. I am greatly encouraged by this striking configuration. It tells me that we can face the climate crisis looming on the horizon. The Heavens reveal the blueprint.
The Sun is in our First House, our very identity as a country. What happened to our Spirit as we traversed the rocky path through the Underworld? We’ve been battered and traumatized. We now are given support to reclaim our generous humanitarian spirit and once again put it into action.
The square of Sun to Ceres opposite Jupiter tells me that a new spirit of cooperation and mutual support is possible. It will take some time to show up on the evening news, but new groups are forming, Aquarian style, dedicated to the sacred task of caretaking our Garden.
Look for the little signs and celebrate them. For instance within the last two weeks we have moved closer to nuclear fusion which is safe and clean energy. The State of New York banned the selling of bred puppies and kittens to crack down on the “puppy mills” that reproduce pets for profit. The U.S. Postal Service pledged to move to all electric vehicles. Search the news every day for signs of renewal and share them with me, if you choose.
And here is the penultimate configuration that gives me the most encouragement. Jupiter at 00 Aries is sextile Sedna, out of sign at 29 Taurus, but on the threshold of Gemini which she crosses on June 15, 2023. Both of these planets are quincunx to Haumea at 00 Scorpio forming a Finger of God. The cosmos is pointing at the solution.
We’ve talked about Jupiter – he was the God of gods. Sedna is our path to spiritual enlightenment. The new outer limit of our solar system, she symbolizes the destination of our collective evolution. Along the way are various dwarf planets, orbiting signposts marking our path. Among these is Haumea – I write this with reverence – the abundant and prolific creation goddess who presides over childbirth as well as rebirth and renewal. We can use Jupiter’s energy to expand our spiritual awareness, find our inner strength and the courage to commit to our spiritual path, and let Haumea take care of the details of reality creation. She is a goddess of immense diversity. This chart fills my heart with gratitude. It’s like a new Christmas star pointing the way to a birth that will change the world.
We will talk more about Haumea next year, because she will be moving into the depths of Scorpio for the next 26 years, deepening our connection to all that is sacred and divine. Along the way we will face our fears, transmute them into love and emerge as a new humanity. I know, sounds too good to be true, but the Heavens never lie.
Of special note on the New Moon on December 23rd, Chiron turns direct in Aries. On March 11th next year, Jupiter will pass over Chiron. We’ll talk more about receiving healing at that time. It will be another milestone in our evolution. Also, the third and final conjunction of Pluto with its natal placement takes place on December 28. Our Pluto return challenge is complete but its effects will linger on for a few years. Pluto will pass through the final degrees of Capricorn and enter Aquarius on March 23rd about the same time Mars moves in Cancer. This puts Pluto in an extended square with Haumea in their new signs. They will work hand in hand for the next few years transforming, transmuting, reforming and rebirthing our nation. It was during this Pluto period beginning in 1778 that our leaders came together to forge our Constitution. Interesting times coming up.
There is so much more in this chart that we could investigate, but I vowed to keep this short, for your sake as well as mine. Time seems to speed up ironically just when the Earth stands still. I send you all my deepest love and wish you joyous Holy days. May Haumea bless us all with renewal next year.
