There simply are not enough superlatives to describe the import of this moment. Something beautiful is happening around the world, and, with perfect synchronicity, an invasion, the USA Pluto return and the New Moon in Pisces converge to reveal a potential future.
Before we take a deep dive into this juicy New Moon chart, I want to comment on Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. A fellow astrologer sent me Putin’s bi-wheel chart with transits to his natal placements and mentioned that Saturn is on Putin’s North Node. My instant take was that Putin’s prospects are limited. I felt with such certainty that he would meet obstacles, resistance and ultimate failure. He is the center of the world stage right now and he is going to find himself skewered by his own destiny.
And sure enough, the Ukranians, led by a true super hero, Volodymyr Zelensky, have made a stand and fought back. Their courage, their love for their country and their dedication to democracy is inspiring the world with hope, admiration and awe. People power on display! The finest human qualities embodied before our eyes. We are all touched. Our Uranian passion for Democracy is gathering strength and surging around the world. A new influx of Spirit, along with the empowering force of Pluto, is transforming our world. This precious energy is just the rocket power we need to free ourselves from the shackles of our current world view.
Keep this in mind as you read about the New Moon chart and be open to discovering how you personally can use this spiritual energy for the benefit of our children’s children.
One more note: I hope you subscribed to the one-time free viewing of “Changing of the Gods.” Perhaps you thought it was complicated Astrology, but this film is about the sweep of history and times of upheaval and change connected synchronistically with Outer Planet interactions like the Pluto/Uranus cycle. Each chapter covers one of our Plutonian challenges – racism, the war on women, democracy, indigenous populations, climate crisis and the destructive excesses of Capitalism. The film is brilliant and impactful. You still have time to see part of it and you can purchase a copy as well and see the whole series. It’s worth it. Hopefully this link still works.
New Moon at 12 Pisces
On March 2, at 9:35 a.m. PST the Moon and Sun come together in Pisces. This is the final lunation cycle of the zodiacal year because Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac. Endings are always a good time to reflect and track our growth. What has changed in us since last Spring? What is coming to a close? What is ready to be released? And most of all, to what are we willing to surrender?
Pisces has co-rulers – Jupiter and Neptune. The Sun and Moon are within two degrees of Jupiter suggesting that this cycle will be BIG. Jupiter brings energy, optimism, opportunity and hope. That is not a guarantee that it will bring good luck. That all depends on the quality of our consciousness and purity of our intentions. That said, Jupiter in Pisces is boundless.
Pisces is a water sign associated with everything boundless – the oceans, the vastness of space, the cosmos. Neptune dissolves the boundaries Saturn has created. It is associated with Spirit, mysticism, devotion to the Divine. As with all things astrological, it works through us according to the state of our consciousness. So when things get rough, we may seek escape – in the bottle, in pills, in sex or conspiracy theories. While this may bring temporary relief, it leads to delusion, frequently to disillusionment and depression.
The optimal experience of Pisces lies in surrender to divine guidance, living according to the wisdom of our hearts, feeling our connection to everything and knowing that everything, including us, is sacred and part of one divine whole. The potential here is off the charts.
I have spoken before about the fact that Neptune is forming an opposition to the USA natal Neptune. I see oppositions as opportunities to face things head on. They don’t need to be confrontive. A Full Moon is not negative, it brings illumination. So does a Full Neptune. A channel, or portal is open now for us to see our broken country through the eyes of compassion rather than conflict. We are in deep pain right now, even those with great wealth. For far too long we have looked through the eyes of fear, judgment and difference. One of our primary needs is belonging. We used to belong to an ideal. Can we find another ideal to reunite us?
So the New Moon is energized by idealism, compassion and divine love. This will grow stronger until Jupiter conjuncts Neptune on April 12th. Our best course of action lies in acceptance and surrender to the cosmic energies evolving us from within. How do we do that? The answers are in the aspects.
Quadruple conjunction in Capricorn
Vesta, Venus and Mars are all conjunct Pluto and semi-square the Sun, Moon and Jupiter. They are leading characters in this month’s unfolding. Vesta brings intense devotion to the sacred. Pluto brings transformative power. It all gets personal with Venus and Mars.
You recall I wrote about the series of Venus/Mars conjunctions this year. The two will be traveling together for a while, helping us heal the divine marriage within – the masculine and feminine energies that make up our psyches. As the Feminine comes back into play in our world, we come to value its gifts. While Mars is about doing, action, initiative, achievement, Venus is about being, taking pleasure in life, using our intuition and learning how to receive. The pause caused by the pandemic, gave all of us time to have private lives. So many of us found pleasure in a slower pace, a gentler life, intimate relationships that nurture us, reconnecting with the natural world around us, and with ourselves. We deepened in our confinement.
Not only are Mars and Venus transforming their relationship during their time with Pluto, these two planets happen to rule the current transiting nodes of the Moon. The North Node indicates our evolutionary flow into the future. Currently it is in Taurus where Venus has dominion. The South Node is in Scorpio where Mars is co-ruler with Pluto. Our future can be more gentle and loving, but not until we address the deep psychological and historical wounds of our past. On the socio-political level we’re speaking of the damaging impact of patriarchal domination.
This balance of the masculine and feminine dynamic has been on tilt. We are a driven society, but our business achievements are hollow without loving relationships. Everything is meaningless without love. We have total agency here. We can break our addiction to work, or bad habits or even points of view. We can embrace the grace of the Feminine. We can make peace within and honor both halves of our psychic make-up. Eris teaches us what happens when someone isn’t invited to the party. Inner peace depends upon a healthy Venus/Mars relationship – an inner honoring, appreciating, respecting of both aspects. And this is how we build toward peace on Earth – one by one by one.
The semi-square is an intimate relationship – only 45 degrees apart. Like the square it can precipitate a crisis of confidence or consciousness, but we may not be aware immediately. This aspect is asking for attention to more subtle forces at work within. The fact that Vesta, Venus and Mars are also conjunct the USA natal Pluto means this inner balancing act is crucial to our collective transformation. We will not thrive as a nation if we deny, suppress and control the lives of half our population.
Chiron in Aries
Our favorite psychic pain doctor is moving very slowly through Aries. We will only know in retrospect what will be healed, but we sure can see what is hurting us. This is another intimate relationship with the New Moon – a semi-sextile or 30 degrees away. We can watch our reactions to what’s going on in the world for clues to what wounds are still tormenting us as well. Are we afraid? Outraged? Sympathetic? Inspired? All this information will provide a clearer picture as it triggers memories and deep-seated convictions.
The New Moon is in the 3rd House of learning, information, perception. We all can benefit from some self-scrutiny and listen for Chiron’s whispers. It may be an emotional time – Moon in Pisces conjunct Jupiter! No limit to our emotions now. It’s a great time to let go, cry those held-back tears, grieve what we are losing, or the pain we have caused others. This is healing and cleansing and a great way to prepare for the Spring Equinox, less than 3 weeks away.
Saturn Conjunct Mercury
These two planets are only 4 minutes apart – a really tight conjunction in Aquarius. We know that Saturn can block us, create limitations, obstacles in our path. While this may sound frustrating, there is a purpose here. Saturn gives us time to consider our choices. This lunation is asking us to think about our values (2nd House) and how they relate to the collective (Aquarius). Do we have tunnel vision, thinking only about ourselves? Are we ready to think beyond – to our communities, our nation, our planet in all its diversity? If not, what do we need to do to free ourselves? We’re being asked to see the bigger picture, and Saturn is helping us focus. Of course under Saturn it will be easy to barricade our minds behind our opinions, but this is a chance to broaden our scope. It is also a chance to solidify some of our dreams based on our values. We have Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces heavily loaded and working together. This is an evolutionary process – reaching mastery in Capricorn, awakening to our humanitarian responsibilities in Aquarius and reconnecting with our divine essence in Pisces. Can we replace our patriarchal thinking with a humanitarian point of view?
Grand Trine and Uranus, of course
The Sun and Moon and Jupiter form a Grand Trine with the USA natal Sun and the 4th largest asteroid in our solar system, Hygeia. The message is clear that the health of our nation, of our identity as the United States of America, is featured in this lunar cycle.
Hygeia was the daughter of Aesclepius the god of medicine. She became associated with the preventative side of health – taking care of our bodies by getting enough rest, eating whole foods, drinking enough water and getting enough exercise. She is a reminder to listen to our bodies’ needs and treat them as the temples they are.
As for Uranus – its influence is ubiquitous. At the New Moon it is in tight sextile to the Sun and Moon, activating our passion for freedom and our need to express our unique individuality. We can’t predict specific outcomes, but we can expect change. As Saturn and Uranus separate from their square, Uranus gains the upper hand. Change is inevitable.
Uranus is the Great Awakener and usually adds an element of surprise. Putin has been surprised by the grit of the Ukranian people. Surprisingly some of our Senators are backpedaling as they see where the current is headed. Pluto will continue to unearth secrets, Uranus to shock us and Neptune to visit us in vivid dreams. You might want to keep track of your dreams for the next couple of months. We don’t always grok the symbolism in our dreams until days or weeks later.
To help guide your practice for the next two weeks, here are key dates to consider:
March 1 Sun sextile Uranus – a lot of awakening energy
2 New Moon in Pisces
3 Venus and Mars conjunct Pluto
5 Sun conjunct Jupiter in Pisces – big dose of Spirit
Mars and Venus enter Aquarius together
6 Mercury in Aquarius squares nodal axis –
think about your dreams for the future
9 Mercury enters Pisces – thinking may get fuzzy
10 Vesta enters Aquarius
13 Sun conj. Neptune – have a dreamy day
17 Mercury sextile Uranus – watch for insights
18 Full Moon in Virgo – see you then

Thinking “may” get fuzzy? – that’s for sure!
